Walnut Creek is a small town in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Walnut Creek is located on the eastern edge of Alameda County and shares borders with Contra Costa County to the east, Hayward Municipal District to the north, and Palo Alto Municipal District to the south. The name Walnut Creek may derive from "walnuts," which were abundant in this area when it was first settled. The creek had other possible origins including "wollen" or "woolen sacks", as walnuts were not grown here until after 1800. There are several mills in Walnut Creek; one known for their quality shoes made from natural leather and woolen thread. Another mill closed in 1892 but its remains can still be seen today within walking distance of Walnut Creek High School. The first post office at Walnut Creek was established on February 14, 1847 by J.D Beecher under the name of Millsburg & Company; it became a part of Contra Costa County on January 1, 1850. A second post office operated at Millsburg from 1860 to 1862; it changed its name to Danville before becoming an incorporated city on October 15, 1862 (it merged with Auburn on December 6). On July 15th 1870, when Contra Costa County was created from parts of Alameda and Marin Counties, Walnut Creek became one of its original townships (). On January 1st 1915, Walnut Creek residents voted 54% against incorporation into Berkeley because they felt that Berkeley's commercial interests would outstrip those of their townspeople (& they lost), while residents of nearby Hercules voted overwhelmingly in favor (75% vs 25%.) In 1923-1924 a new high school was built adjacent to Central Middle School and also served asWalnut Creeks High School until 1984-1985 when that school too closed down due to lack of enrollment then reopening as Arden Oaks High School currently does.. Finally starting in September 1985 Arden Oaks closed again due to budgetary reasons after many years serving students who attend Livermore Valley High School which opened up just across Highway 24 near Livermore City where classes began in fall 1986

Walnut Creek is a small town in California, located about 30 miles east of Sacramento on the banks of the Sacramento River. Walnut Creek was founded by George Washington Carver and his wife, Mary Anna Carver in 1868. The Carvers named their town after walnuts that they grew near their farmhouse. The first post office in Walnut Creek was established in 1871. The town was incorporated as a city in 1909. In 1916, Walnut Creek became the site of World War I's largest air supply depot when it became the home to the United States Military Air Service Base (USMARS). USMARS operated an R-1300 flying boat station at Walnut Creek from 1916 until its closure in 1944. In 1924,Walnut Creek became one of several communities within the newly created City of Davisestablished as part of a statewide program to create towns around major cities throughout California. By 1949, Davis had become an independent city and Walnut Creek ceased to be part of Davis. Since its incorporation into a city,Walnut Creek has experienced various growth rates including population increases of over 50%, percent growth rate for housing units above 20%, percentage increase for retail sales over 10%, and percent increase for office space above 50%. As walnuts have been an important crop here for many years now,the local economy has also benefited from this trade with other parts of the world through exports such as nuts and flour
Walnut Creek is located in the San Joaquin Valley of California and was first inhabited by Native American peoples. The area now known as Walnut Creek was part of the Rancho blanco grant given to Juan Rodríguez de Monterey in 1785. In 1812, Captain David Fenton built a ferryboat at what is now Jansen Street on the north side of Walnut Creek forloading goods arriving from Mission San Francisco de Asís. In 1825, John Sutter founded the city of Sacramento on land he had purchased from the Mexican government. In 1851, the United States bought all of present-day Contra Costa County from Mexico for $2 million. The new county was named after General José Joaquín Herrera y Costilla, who fought in Mexico during the Mexican-American War.
