In 1868, a group of investors in Walnut Creek, California founded the first firearms store in that town. The store was called the Arsenal and it was located on High Street. It was run by John Sutter and his son-in-law, George Armstrong. The store had a section for handguns and a section for rifles. The Armory also sold ammunition and shotguns. In 1892, the Store moved to its current location on Main Street. At that time, it became one of the largest firearms stores in California. In 1916, John Sutter passed away and his son-in-law, George Armstrong took over the business. He continued to operate it until his death in 1951. After George Armstrong's death, John Sutter's widow kept the store running until 1984 when it closed down again due to lack of interest from customers. Today, there is only an old replica of the Arsenal still standing in Walnut Creek with some remnants left of its original contents including pistols and shotguns from back then

Walnut Creek, California had its start in the early 1800s as a small farming town located in the foothills of San Francisco. The early settlement was founded by American pioneers who were looking for land to farm and expand their businesses. The area that is now Walnut Creek was first called Cloverdale and later renamed after Major General George Washington's home, Mount Vernon. As the small community grew, so did the need for firearms to protect residents from outlaws and other criminals. In 1851, Mr. Atherton opened a shooting gallery in Walnut Creek which became a popular spot for local residents to take aim at targets. Over time, more guns were added to the range and it soon became one of the most popular places in town for locals to shoot pistols and rifles. In 1907, gunmen shot dead six people inside a theater in Walnut Creek during an amateur theatrical performance by the company known as "The Columbine Players." At that time, gun violence was considered very dangerous in America and resulted in many prosecutions of those involved in firearm possession or use without proper training. As a result of this tragedy, Mayor JF McCloskey created legislation which required all theaters throughout California to have closed-circuit TV cameras installed within five years. This law helped ensure that such tragedies would not happen again and also helped reduce crime rates in Walnut Creek over time.

In 1834, surveyor John Coddington laid out a road from Antioch to Walnut Creek and called the community "Creek Valley". By 1836, many businesses had been built in what is now Walnut Creek and it had become an important commercial center for Contra Costa County. By 1875, all but one of the remaining businesses had closed or been replaced by new ones due to changes in local economy caused by railroads entering town and mining operations nearby. However, walnuts continued to be grown here until around World War II when production stopped because of competition from other crops such as rice and beans. Todaywalnuts are still produced here but with a new focus on fruit products such as jams and puddings made from them like raspberry jam or blackberry pie

Walnut Creek was founded by brothers Daniel and Joseph Winchester in 1847 as a log cabin community on the west side of the Feather River. That year, Walnut Creek became one of fourteen towns in San Joaquin County to be chartered under Act 8 of 1849. The first post office in Walnut Creek opened on October 10, 1851. In 1861, the town was renamed for Andrew Witherspoon Walnut (1811-1865), an American Congressman from California who served two terms as Governor of California. In 1865, walnuts were introduced to Southern California and began to be grown there; however, they did not take off until after World War II when they became well known for their nuts. By 1990 walnuts had become such an important part of the local economy that they were celebrated at a county fair with demonstrations and live music by local musicians.
