Walnut Creek, California is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. It is the birthplace of The Browning Hi-Power rifle and shotgun manufacturer and the former home of Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The current Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1903. The first ammunition factory in Walnut Creek was built by George Armstrong Cockerill in 1892. In 1898, another ammunition factory was built by Wm. Fenton & Sons for the American Ammunition company. In 1903, the present Chamber of Commerce building was erected on what had been an agricultural land grant to John Sibley and his brothers-in-law from Captain Samuel Eliot Morison (1819–93). At that time there were only a few residents living in Walnut Creek proper; it grew rapidly during World War I with military production at Winchester complementing civilian production at nearby Alameda Ammo Plant. By 1923 there were over 1,500 people living in Walnut Creek proper while military production continued at Winchester as well as other ammo factories scattered throughout Contra Costa County. In 1925, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington Rand Corporation which continued to produce ammunition under its own name until 1971 when it became part of Seagull Ammunition Holdings Incorporated. As Seagull Ammunition Holdings Incorporated went through various changes over the years including being acquired by Diamondback Ammunition Co., LLC and finally Arkema Ammunition Group plc., all ownership changes resulted in increased competition from premium munitions producers such as Glock AG who purchased Arkema from Gemalto AB for $1 billion US on July 12th, 2014.* This increase in competition made it difficult for smaller manufacturers like Sig Sauer SEAGUARD firearmManufacturing Division to remain competitive against larger companies such as Glock AG who possessed patents covering many aspects of handgun manufacturing including magazine design and feed systems among others* although Sig Sauer has attempted to address these patents with two new products called their “Glock Smart” magazines which utilize metal clips instead of screws which allows them to be replaced without having to remove the entire magazine*

The name Walnut Creek comes from an incident that took place in 1824 when a group of miners who had been working in what is now Walnut Creek were looking for gold near Slauson Reservoir when they found some shells that looked like walnuts. They named their discovery "Walnut creek" because there were many trees bearing walnuts near where they discovered the streambed. The first post office called Walnut Valley was established in 1847, but it was moved to its current location in 1854 because of geographic problems with naming communities after hills or rivers (due to toponymism).
