Gun targets have been in Vista, California for many years. Some of the earliest known target Shooting locations were at the Vista Rifle and Pistol Club which was located on Foothill Boulevard. The first shotgun shooting location in Vista was also at the club. The Driggs Rifle and Pistol Range opened up in 1924 and became one of the largest rifle ranges west of the Mississippi River. It was here that U.S. military personnel would take part in training exercises during World War II as they prepared to fight against Japan.
The city of Vista, California is located in the Mojave Desert on the Nevada-Arizona border. The population was 17,829 as of 2015 and it is part of the San Diego metropolitan area. Vista was founded in 1912 by Captain James W. Webb with land grants from the Spanish government. The city was named for General José Antonio Nunez Mesa (1814-1893), a Mexican general who fought against Ulysses S. Grant during the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Alta California under president Porfirio Díaz. In 1925, Jules Verne wrote a short story called "Vista" about life in Vista. In 1932, Mayor Harry Chandler built a dam across the stream which provided water to Valley Village, now known as Vista Village Hills. In 1934, Mr. Fenton opened his restaurant at 6144 East Valley Boulevard which became one of downtown's most popular tourist destinations until it closed in 1984. In 1957, President Dwight Eisenhower designated Vista an Urban Landmark District and also established a town center at 5th Street and Mesa Road within its boundaries. On July 15, 1959, Mayor Don Freeman dedicated Interstate 10 east of Vista to Route 66 by driving a truck down I-10 into what is now known as I-5widowmaker Canyon near Quartzsite National Monument northwest of town limits. This event marks one of the first uses of Interstate 10 within unincorporated territory since its inception thirty years earlier when it connected Yosemite National Park with Los Angeles County via route 66 On October 3rd., 1960 Mrs Margie Aaronson donated land to form Open Space Preserve adjacent to present day Vista High School campus northeast corner Of Avenue C & Indian School Road

The first European to arrive in California was the Portuguese sailor, Pedro Alvares Cabral, on August 2, 1769. He and his party of about 25 men landed on the coast of present-day San Francisco Bay. The land that became California was claimed by Spain in 1775, but it wasn't until 1821 when Mexico agreed to let the United States take possession of it as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The treaty also gave President James K. Polk access to Mexican soil for exploration and development purposes. In 1846, during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), American forces captured Los Angeles from Mexico and set up a military garrison there. A few years later, on February 14, 1850, California became part of the United States at a time when most countries were still members of Europe's Common Market. During its heyday as an agricultural country with rich gold resources and low population density, California underwent many changes including ranching and other farming methods which have left their mark all over the state today.
