The Victorville Police Department was established in 1925. The department is responsible for the policing of Victorville and its annexed areas. In 1984, the Victorville City Council voted to create a police department for the annexed area of unincorporated County of Los Angeles. This new department would be known as the California Highway Patrol Department. In 1992, the city council again voted to create a police department for the annexed area of unincorporated County of Los Angeles. This time, they decided to name the new department Victorville Police Department after Mayor Harry S. Truman who had recently been elected to office in that county. On October 1, 2002, then-Sheriff Donny Young announced that he was suspending operations of all law enforcement agencies within unincorporated County of Los Angeles due to budget problems which were expected to last for years. Sheriff Young said that this decision was made because he could not provide an adequate number of deputies or officers to cover all aspects of law enforcement inVictorville and its annexes during these budgetary problems. A few days later on October 3rd, Sheriff Young announced that he would be re-opening all law enforcement agencies within unincorporated Countyof Los Angeles effective immediately with full funding and resources available. He stated that this decision was made because there had been an increase in crime inVictorville since his suspension and he wanted to make it easier for residents to get access to safety when needed most.

Lovell and Wm Hargrave as part of the Kern River Ranch area which stretched from Fresno to Bakersfield. The name "Victorville" is taken from General John Avant's battle victory against Mexican forces near Tucson on October 14, 1847 during the Stopford Treaty negotiations that ended the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1911, when Victorville incorporation was granted by the state of California, it had a population of just three people: storekeeper Simeon Gitchell and his infant son Herbert; accountant Claude Epps; and one other individual known only as "the Indian." In 1915, when it became an unincorporated community within Inyo County, there were just five residents: two plumbers and three women who acted as janitors for local businesses. In 1928–29 architect Willard Gibbs designed what would become one of Victorvillets most iconic structures – The Western Hotel/Motel – which served as a stop on stagecoaches between Los Angeles and downtown San Francisco until 1966 when Interstate 880 severed the route through central California making it impossible for passengers to reach either city without traveling down Interstate 10 instead. In 1951–52 Architectural Digest featured plans for what would become Municipal Auditorium – then called Civic Auditorium – which would seat 624 spectators on a temporaryamped earth surface located off High Street east of Main Street while construction continued on nearby civic center which would eventually be dedicated in 1957 as Victorvillet Memorial Stadium (later renamed Glenmont Stadium) before being renovated in 1989 into Sleepy Hollow Park Amphitheater seating 8,000 people with permanent parking available inside and outside along with an outdoor plaza overlooking High Street where vendors set up shop during live performances by popular musical acts throughout the year including headliners such as Kiss and Alice Cooper during their visits to town each summertime during their "Kiss 'n' Make Up" tour stops across Southern California’s Mojave Desert region touring stadiums large enough accommodate such an event but smaller than Coachella Valley’s Joshua Tree National Park experiencing similar crowd numbers yet not having any built attractions adjacent thereto catering specifically to rock music fans exclusively).
