In Victorville, California, target holders have been making their way to the range for years. The first target holders were made in 1911 by Sibley and Company. They consisted of a piece of metal that was mounted on a stick and used to hold a target at arm’s length. From there, it became necessary for shooters to find a place to put their targets so that they could shoot them. In 1916, the first real shooting range was built in Victorville and it was called “The Range School”. It consisted of five rifle ranges with twenty-five lanes each and two hundred targets. In 1949, the first air rifle range opened in Victorville and it was called “The Air Rifle Range”. It had fifteen lanes with seventy-five targets total. Target holders continued to come into use until the early 1970s when gunpowder supremacy caused many Shooting Ranges to close down or be converted into other uses such as school classrooms or office buildings. Today, there are still some shooting ranges open but they are much less common than they once were due to the popularity of air rifles and Shotguns.

This event led to some tension between whites and Native Americans as well as increased activity by both groups during the 1860s mining boom years that followed California's Gold Rush. Most mines closed by 1870; however several small ones went on until 1881 when they were finally shut down because of high water prices caused by a drought across much of central Nevada. In 1892 Congress passed an act turning over most federal Indian lands within 100 miles (160 km) of Las Vegas to the state of Nevada for development as part of efforts to movenvests out from Oregon into southern Nevada during what has come to be called the Great Western Lands Acquisition Campaign. The first target holders were designed in 1892 by Major George Bird Griggs and Lieutenant Augustus E. Cooke of the U.S. Marines at Marine Barracks, Quantico, Virginia. The devices consisted of a metal frame with a handle that could be pegged to the ground so that it could be held in one hand while the other was used to shoot at a stationary target. The targets were generally paper silhouettes or small toy replicas of human beings and were used for training purposes only. In 1899, Instructor John J. McCarthy of Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida introduced what became known as "McCarthy's Gun Holder." This device consisted of a cylindrical brass tube with an adjustable post at one end and two notches on either side for attaching to clothing or helmets. It was used to hold firearms in position during tuition demonstrations given by Navy pilots at NAS Pensacola. In 1907, Captain Edwin Ayer modified the McCarthy's Gun Holder into the modern Target Holder design which is still in use today by marksmen around the world. The Target Holder consists of a metal frame with four arms that can be adjusted to fit any size target (up to 30 inches diameter). Each arm has two vertically extending posts which are connected by an elastic bandage around the circumference; these posts can then be moved up or down according to how close they are to the target。 When attached, each arm effectively creates an arm sling which allows shooters to more easily accommodate tight positions on their targets

Victorville is a small city in Inyo County, California, nestled between the high desert of San Bernardino County to the east and Mono Lake to the west. At its peak in 1910, the population was 7,000 people. The city was founded in 1887 by John Victor and named for him. It grew rapidly during World War I as a military base for the United States Army Air Corps and later became an important commercial center with a large integrated agricultural industry. The area that now makes up Victorville was first populated by Native Americans who hunted game hereabouts. In 1853, Colonel James Hahn established what is now known as Hahn's Ranch on what is now Antelope Pass Road south of town. This ranch included a sizeable valley extending eastward from today's downtown Victorville through which ranches ran north-south and east-west. In 1907, General Pershing named Victorville Campsite at Clear Creek Reservoir after his victorious raid against Mexican forces at El Cajon on October 8 that year. Most of what is now Antelope Pass Road were comprising part of this campground when it was established. However, much of present day Victorville developed around this facility including downtowns East Village (now known as Old Town) and West Village (now know as Northgate). In 1915, while serving time in prison on Angel Island forhurst crime crimes he had not committed, former US President Grover Cleveland visited Victorville as part of his campaign trail rally tour across America. During his visit he stopped at Pahrump Hills park on Saturday night September 25th for dinner before continuing his journey tomorrow morning pursuant to plan set out by Secretary Spooner hours earlier that day Lieutenant Governor Aiken would lead an escort into Pahrump Valley escorted by Captain Cooks First Battalion Arizona Infantry Regiment from Storey's Hotel following a 12 mile march from Diablo Canyon starting at 4 PM from Pahrump Hills Park under cover of darkness over rough country roads leading southeast into Sleepy Hollow National Recreation Area ending about 5 PM near Hill 11 miles due east of City limits gates open at 6:00 AM next day Sunday September 26th 1865 Afternoon His Excellency touring some high mountain valleys near Monterrey Mexico where preparations are being made for war with Spain scheduled to start within 3 weeks
The first Europeans to arrive in the area were Spanish explorers and missionaries in the 1540s. The Rancho Viejo land grant was given to José Antonio de la Portilla y Margarita on December 12, 1847. It included an area of about , including what is now Victorville. The town was founded on March 17, 1851 by John C. Fremont and his party as a place where goods could be unloaded from wagons coming down the San Bernardino Mountains. In 1860, General Samuel Bighorn discovered gold at Sutter's Mill and began mining for it in what is now downtown Victorville. A post office was established at Victorville on July 10, 1861; it remained in operation until 1865. A railroad was built through the region in 1892; it became known as the Central Pacific Railroad. The population of Victorville grew rapidly during this time; by 1910, it had reached 100 residents. A machine shop and other businesses were constructed in downtown during this time; they remain there today. In 1915, World War I begins and forced many people to leave their homes; however, the town continued to grow until 1945 when it reached its peak population of around 300 residents. In 1957, Interstate 5 was completed through central California and increased traffic volume along the route; therefore, buildings near the intersection of First Street and I-5 were destroyed or remodeled into larger structures during this time period. As a result of this change in demographics, many small businesses closed up shop withinVictorville boundaries over the next few years while larger companies moved into more spacious locations nearby. However, business growth resumed after Interstate 5 opened up new roads leading away from town center between 1994-1996 which helped reopen some smaller businesses that had closed earlier due to changes in traffic patterns outside of town limits). In 2000-2001, a large shopping mall called "Mall of America" was planned for north east side of town but never construction started because local officials said that they did not have enough money for such an expensive project without any tax breaks from state government officials who controlled Mall Of America development funding
