Victorville is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. Victorville was founded in 1887 by brothers George and Harry Victor. It became a city on April 4, 1907. In 1909, it became one of the first cities in California to adopt an official name change from "San Bernardino" to "Victorville". The city's motto is " Progress and Prosperity." Victorville is located within the Greater Los Angeles Area. The oldest settlement in what would become Victorville was established about three miles east of present-day town center on what is now State Route 17 (now US 395). In 1887, brothers George and Harry Victor founded the village of Victoriville after purchasing 3/8 mile (1 km) of land from John Sutter for $640. They named their new community after Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria who had visited them while they were farming near Redding Creek in 1885. In 1888, when US 20 crossed present-day town center between San Bernardino and Riverside Counties it was known as State Route 17B because it followed the existing Indian Road which served as a stagecoach route connecting Orange County with San Bernardino County and reached its peak flux during horseback transportation around this time period. On October 1, 1912, state route 24 replaced Indian Road within town limits when that highway was extended south from downtown Los Angeles through Union City to become Pershing Avenue north of Rancho Cucamonga beyond today’s Agoura Hills neighborhood; thus creating one continuous street grid across all 5 Orange County townships through which motorists passed enroute to downtown Los Angeles or Union City or Agoura Hills without ever crossing any county lines! On January 1st 1922 another important event took place when voters approved incorporation by referendum of the then unincorporated communities including: Harmon Canyon (later part of Simi Valley), Midway Mesa (later part of Northridge), Garden Grove Heights (later part of Valley Village), Sunland Park ( later part of Woodland Hills ), Carlsbad Caverns Open Air Museum & Visitor Center( later renamed North Hollywood Bowl ), West Covina , East Covina and most importantly Crystal Lake Village situated immediately adjacent to modern day Hoover Dam National Recreation Area; making Crystal Lake Village thereby an integral component & essential commercial & cultural center for residents within minutes’ walk not only from Downtown Los Angeles but also from both West Covina & East Covina portions of Victorville proper! In 1925 local developer Hapgood began developing what would become Victorville's first shopping mall at what is now Main Street and Western Avenue; originally called “Harmon Mall” until 1923 when Hapgood changed the name to “Victory Mall” due evident success with similar locations throughout Southern California following his lead! After just 2 years Occidental Shopping Plaza opened adjacent to Victory Mall providing yet more retail space for locals and visitors alike! In 1957 General Motors announced plans for a new plant adjacent to Interstate 215 in southwestern Riverside County –Job Corps Training Center would be built there becoming GM's primary training affiliate throughout America! This initial investment led directlyto increased business hours at Victorsville as local students flocked into nearby University Towne Centre -one such success that continues today asGMNearyVille open enrollment school year round! By 1975 over 100 companies had arrived here Essex Corporation becoming one such company serving clients locally & nationwide ! Today we have over 275 businesses located inside our walls !!
