Victorville is a city in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 21,934 at the 2010 census. Victorville is located on the Kern River and is surrounded by Sequoia National Park to the north and east, Mono Lake to the west and south, and Yosemite National Park to the northwest. The first permanent settler in what is now Victorville was George Hearn in 1892. A post office called Victorville was established in 1897. The name of the town came from General John C. Pershing's operation against Mexican forces near its location in 1847 during theMexican-American War. In 1912, Sperry Seton became one of the first people to drill for oil offshore in Kern County when he drilled a well at Shell Beach on Clear Creek near present-day Victorville. The discovery led to oil production until 1976 when it was cancelled due to high water levels caused by drought conditions. During World War II, Victorville played an important role as an Army Air Forces training base and later as a center for aviation production during World War II with nearby Decatur becoming known as "the巴巴区" ( Valley of Boeing). After World War II ended, Victorville slowly declined until large-scale development started around 1960 with many new businesses coming into town including Hewlett Packard; Monsanto; Nike; Ford Motor Company; Kaiser Permanente Health Care System; and Southern California Edison Company among others
