Vallejo is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 116,554 as of the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Northern California and part of Silicon Valley. The first Europeans to explore what is now Contra Costa County were Juan Bautista de Anza and his party on July 29, 1769. They named their new land San Francisco del Norte after Father José de Francia who had recently founded San Francisco Mission in nearby Alamo City. The first post office was established at present-day Vallejo on December 12, 1821. A second post office opened at Stockton on January 10, 1825; both offices were closed due to jurisdictional problems with Fremont County. In 1852, when gold was discovered in Sutro Heights near Hayward there was pressure from people living around San Francisco to get involved in the gold rush going on throughout California because of the high cost of transportation to each new discovery. On October 30th 1850 an ad appeared in "The Californian" newspaper announcing that $5 per day could be earned by picking up gold nuggets off the ground at various locations around north central Contra Costa county including Vallejo which would bring miners into town for a single day per week during that year’s gold Rush! This triggered what is known today as “the Gold rush” which brought an influx of men and women from rural areas across Northern California looking for a better life than they had back home. Gold mining continued until 1865 when it switched from opencast mining to hydraulic mining using waterwheels powered by steam engines due to advances made in England during this time period such as Stephenson's engine design which allowed Mineshafts to be built deep underground where coal could not be found easily accessible however this caused great environmental damage as bricks and other materials used throughout these mines were converted into barres (rock form) that can still be seen today near some areas where these mines once stood while other parts have been developed into homes etc... Many families lived and worked close together within these mines over many years contributing greatly to local economy however many families also left during tough times due mainly to economic reasons such as hard times at home or joining forces with friends or relatives who had similar interests outside of farming/mining.. It wasn't until fairly recently when archaeologists began excavating several old quarries located just outside town limits that they began piecing together what occurred here between 1800-1850 leading them eventually discovering evidence suggesting that early Vallejans may even have participated actively in building those originalesque dams northeast of town along Clear Creek (what are now Hearst Park & North Capitol Mall). Unfortunately despite valiant efforts by numerous archaeologists over many years little has been learned about either our ancestors or their lives here within these walls let alone how they interacted with one another or even how their descendants might feel about being associated specifically with this particular place given its long history but nonethelessValleyVoice will continue our research endeavors herewithin!
