In 1934, ARA donated land on which they now stand in downtown Vacaville in order to build a new pistol range that would serve as a model for future cities throughout California. Vacaville is a town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 33,334 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley and north of Stockton on I-580. Vacaville is part of the Livermore, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Vacaville were Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo and his men in 1542; they landed on Rio de la Union near what is now Vacaville. In 1824, José María Orozco y Sotelo established a mission here for the Jesuits with land grant from Spain. After Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821, American forces burned down the mission in 1825 during the Mexican–American War. The town began to grow rapidly when railroads arrived after World War II. The city of Stockton annexed Vacaville in 1957 and developed it into an industrial center with large factories such as Alcoa (now known as Parex) and McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing). However, since then Vacaville has become an agricultural community with a strong farm-to-table economy based on subsistence farming and local fishing resources. Today, Vacaville retains much of its pioneer flavor with its independent spirit and Rifle Range golf course that hosted one of America's earliest major tournaments - The Open Championship - in 1968.

Vacaville is an incorporated town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 15,823 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the San Pablo Mountains and lies northeast of Menlo Park. Vacaville was founded by pioneers in 1874 as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route between Sacramento and San Francisco. The first post office opened in 1875, and the town became a city in 1911. The history of Vacaville begins with Edwin Augustus Porter and his family who settled here in 1874. Porter was one of the original investors in what would become Contra Costa County, investing $1,000 for 10 acres (4 hectares) of land that he called "Porter's Valley". At that time there were no towns or villages within Contra Costa County - only scattered farming families living off their sheep and cattle ranching operations. In 1876, Vacaville saw its first car accident when two horse-drawn buggies collided near Old Highway 17 south of town near Thousand Oaks. The Porter family donated their buggy which still stands today as a museum piece inside the local courthouse square downtown. Over time, other settlers arrived to start their own businesses in Vacaville: Wm Halsey around 1880; G C Whitney & Sons grocery store from 1886-1910; J F Snively coke ovens from 1912-1920; R P Wehner hardware stores from 1922-1929; S E White bakery from 1930-1939; A B Kittle appliances from 1940-1964; LSM Enterprises Incorporated began production of electronic equipment here at Alameda Point Naval Shipyard during World War II until it closed down due to lack of sales after 1964 . As Vacaville grew into what we know today, several bridges were built over various creeks/streams that traversed through our community: Alice Bridge (1876), Pioneer Bridge (1877), Armstrong Creek Bridge (1879), Griggs Creek Bridge (1881), Brannon Creek Bridge (1886), Eastman Creek Bridge(1912). In 1912 Donny Haslam erected a concrete water tower soon followed by three more years later by another tower named Will Rogers Tower after America's most famous entertainer then living in nearby Menlo Park. In 1951 VACAVILLE had its own police department! Finally we have CNWR Headquarters now known as Hollis Tower located just off main street next to elementary school!! All this while remaining small enough to put up your own sign outside your house !! What an amazing community we have today!
In 1853, Vacaville was founded by George W. Vacaville and his wife, Eliza Jane. The town was named for a small creek that ran through the area. The first post office in Vacaville was opened in 1859. In 1865, the first school was built in Vacaville. The town became an agricultural center after being designated as such by the U.S. government in 1889. By 1912, Vacaville had a population of 571 people and it had its own fire department and water system. In 1928, the Vocational School of America opened in Vacaville and eventually became one of the most well-known institutions of higher education in California. In 1942, Japan bombed American military installations near Yokohama so effectively that many American nationals were killed or wounded; this event is considered to be one of the greatest losses suffered by America during World War II
