Vacaville, California is a small city in Solano County, California. The population was 5,846 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the nine counties in the San Francisco Bay Area and it is part of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1868 by George Christopher Vacaville and named for him. The Vacaville Manufacturing Company was started there in 1876 and continued until 1972. In 1978, Timken Corporation acquired all of the assets of Vacaville Manufacturing Company, making it an open-air company factory which continues to operate today as a museum with exhibits on everything from early transportation to modern technology. The cornerstone stone for City Hall was laid on July 15th, 1898 by Mayor Henson W. Smith. The first building that stood here was built by Captain Fenton Clements during his occupancy as Sheriff of Solano County in 1874-75. At present there are six buildings within the limits of Vacaville: two post office buildings (1910s), one firehouse (1892), one police station (1922), one library (1971), and three churches (1975). On October 17th, 1974, after years of deliberations among various community groups about where to locate a new municipal center for Vacaville – consisting primarily of public works functions such as streetlights and park benches – voters passed an ordinance authorizing construction of what became known as “ civic center Park” at Seventh Street/Mountain View Avenue north thereof; also known locally as “City Hall” or simply “Housing Authority Park” since no money ever went into its operation beyond meeting expenses associated therewith from general fund Allotment 1/2% per annum until 1984 when special funds were appropriated thereto pursuant to SB 309 which provided for its renovation and expansion program now comprising twentyfour acres comprising renovated portions plus sixteen acres newly annexed thereto eastward along Mountain View Avenue from Seventh Street including approximately four hundred housing units over thirty years ensuing up to present day; cost including acquisition thereof being $27 million . On December 3rd following annexation into City Limits other than Housing Authority Park all property south thereof became Public Lands under provisions set forth therein with respect to same hereafter cited . Today’s Municipalplex complex covers area extending northwestward down Seventh Street past Downtown Vacaville well past First Street thence northeasterly on State Route 12 passing through Menlo Park then westerly on Interstate 80 passing through Petaluma before terminating at Union Pacific Railroad Station serving both cities together

The town began as a small farming community on the east side of Sacra Mesa Boulevard near what is now City Hall. Ayerstall built two homes in Vacaville – one for himself and one for his wife – before selling both properties in 1851 to James Hutton Jr., who then became its first Postmaster. Hutton set up a grocery store and post office in what is now the town square before dying in 1861 from yellow fever while serving with Ulysses S Grant’s army during the Mexican–American War at Buena Vista Creek west of downtownSacramento A year later, James Allred bought Hutton’s property and developed it into what is now Vacaville Village with three blocks of single-family homes and a schoolhouse on Main Street between First Avenue and Indian Road (now Addison Avenue). By 1865 all but two of those homes had been destroyed by fire; but Allred managed to rebuild most of them using local materials including adobe bricks from nearby San Fernando Valley farms that he leased from farmers until he could build his own home there in 1870 Allred continued making repairs/updates to his villiage until 1907 when he sold it again (to John Waddell) after experiencing financial problems related to drought conditions that had hit California during his ownership After Waddell’s death in 1928, control passed through probate court hands until 1935 when it reverted back to private hands under new management as longtime rival Henry Kaiser purchased it from Kaiser family interests . UnderKaiser ownership much progress was made on redeveloping & beautifying village square -> added library -> movie theater -> post office -> hospital -> dance hall -> luxury housing developments ++ New shopping mall opened 1969
Vacaville was founded by George Anson Vacaville on November 5, 1874 as a small community in the town of Redding. It became an important citrusgrowing region and remained so until the early 1930s.
