Vacaville, California is a small town in San Joaquin County, California. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno–Mountain View–San Jose Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Vacaville were Hernando Baca and Mateo Pacheco on March 17, 1769. They named it La Virgen de las Brisas (The Virgin of the Flowers). On July 14, 1800, Don José Maria Vargas founded a mission here called Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza y Nuestra Madre del Salvador. The town was platted in 1851 by John C. Frémont and Wm. Templeton Smith and named for him, José Maria Vargas Boulevard being one of its streets. In 1876 Vacaville became an incorporated village with a mayor and five trustees; however it reverted to unincorporated status in 1903 when the townships within San Joaquin County were combined into one municipality under the name of Fresno. In 1990 Vail had 5% of its population living below poverty line while Vacaville had over 60%. There are few landmarks remaining from early times such as Hacienda Los Olivos which still stands as a farmstead today along José Maria Vargas Boulevard near old downtown Vacaville; or Matanzas Adobe which stood on Jameson Road between present-day North Park Drive and Alma Drive before being destroyed by fire in 1984; or Pueblo Viejo where pioneer Ansel Adams photographed his famous "Pine Trees" series here in 1915 during his stay with his family at nearby Sather House; but most impressive are the vintage automobiles that can be seen parked all around town center including at various filling stations from which drivers could buy gasoline both ways back then! Vacaville, California is located in the Santa Rosa County, California region. The community was platted on October 15, 1867 by George Jones and named for Vacaville, England. It became a town on January 5, 1870. On December 1, 1882 it amalgamated with Redding to form the new city of Redding. The population of Vacaville was estimated at 20,000 in 1910 and peaked at 30,000 in 1920. It declined thereafter until its peak in 1930 when it had a population of 50,000 people. The decline was due to various factors such as the Great Depression and World War II which caused the local economy to suffer. In recent years Vacaville has experienced an increase in development as a bedroom community for nearby Redding and Sacramento counties. In 2016 Vacaville had a population of 27,512 people living within its city limits and 26 adjacent unincorporated areas making it the second most populous city in Contra Costa County after San Francisco proper. This growth is being driven by increasing job opportunities within commuting distance from downtown Redding as well as businesses that have set up shop there since early 2020s attributable to regulations associated with the California state government’s decision not to allow cities with more than 8500 residents to apply for federal funding through Proposition 218 (the Regional Housing Development Act). As Vacaville becomes more developed it also attracts visitors who often come here for its beautiful scenery or history - both are well worth experiencing if visiting this area during any time period

Phillips operated a sawmill there until 1858. In 1860, he built a cabin on the bluff overlooking the valley, where he now resides. The first post office in Vacaville was established in 1865. The first store was opened in 1868. By 1870, the population of Vacaville had grown to around 100 people. A school was founded in 1870 and remained in operation until 1955. In 1877, an engine factory was built in Vacaville and became one of the largest employers in the area. It operated until 1935. In 1902, a water tower was erected and served as a water source for many years until it was destroyed by fire in 1961. The community developed some industries such as cheese manufacturing and printing before returning to agriculture during World War II when local farmers produced crops for military purposes. After the war ended, little development occurred until the late 20th century when new residents began moving into Vacaville from other parts of California and elsewhere due to its growing reputation as an agricultural center
