Vacaville is a town in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 10,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of the Sacramento River. The town was founded in 1853 by men from Vacaville, California and Arroyo Grande, California as a sheep ranch. It became an agricultural center with several hundred acres of irrigated land developed around 1901 into what is now Vacaville's downtown area. In 1915 the town adopted its present name and began to develop its munitions industry as a result of World War I strategic bombing raids against Japan that occurred over its skies. Ammunition production peaked during World War II with the construction of ammunition plants and arsenals in nearby Roseville and Yuba City; however, due to reductions in military activity after 1945, Vacaville's munitions industry gradually declined until it ceased operations in 1984. Ammunition production has resumed since 1984 through various initiatives by local governments including donations from private companies and government funding for research and development; however, there remains little evidence that any new munitions have been developed or made available for use in North America since the end of World War II. However, some munitions remnants still remain scattered throughout Vacaville thanks to periodic community clean-ups which have helped preserve many objects dating back to artillery testing days long ago.

The name Vacaville comes from Coyote Valley which means "Valley of the Coyotes" in Spanish. The area now known as Vacaville was first settled by Native Americans in 1836. A post office called Vacaville was established in 1868, and became a town in 1870. In 1907, the towns of Livermore and Fremont were merged into Vacaville to form what is now Alameda County. In 1938, an earthquake struck California that measured 5.9 on the Richter scale and caused extensive damage throughout Northern California including parts of Vacaville. More than 50 buildings collapsed or were destroyed with local businesses losing over $2 million dollars during that quake alone! In 1984, redevelopment began at Jack London Square which included new housing developments as well as a shopping mall and parks across several blocks within downtown Vacaville itself - one of North America's most recent large-scale redevelopment projects! In 2007-2008, there were major reclamation efforts for much of Jack London Square following significant damage done to it by fire over a period of several years previous; this included installation of giant drywall barriers around all exterior surfaces and replacement or renovation of many internal components!
