In 1892, the first weapon flashlight was developed in Upland, California. The inventor of the flashlight, Lorenzo Geyer, designed and patented the device. At that time, weapons were mainly consisted of pistols and shotguns. A few years later, Geyer introduced a new type of flashlight called the "Peyton." Beginning in 1916, GEyer began producing rifle-mounted models known as "Geyer riflesights." These sights used rotating eyepieces to adjust their illumination level according to target position. Some versions even incorporated moving lenses to provide variable illumination levels depending on range and environment. In 1928, GEyer created what is today known as "The Geyer RifleFlashlight" which featured three CREE XP-L LED lights within a black plastic housing that could be adjusted for brightness by means of an Allen keyhole screwdriver system located at one end of the housing (the other end held a small red/green light). By 1932, most major American manufacturers had produced weapon flashlights using CR123A batteries or 6 AA cells (Cordless Weapons Technology Inc., Catalog #CW-2). However, some manufacturers continued production using nickel-cadmium batteries until about 1963 when they switched over to nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) cells due to safety concerns about fire hazards associated with battery leakage during discharge (Upland High School Alumni Association Newsletter - Fall 2002).

In 1922, Upland became an incorporated city with its own government. The town was originally built on gentle hillsides that stretched for miles around what is now the downtown area of Upland. The first settlers came to the area in 1887 by wagon train when it was still part of Mexico City Province. They were attracted to the fertile soil and natural resources available in the region. By 1912, there were over 100 buildings in Upland including a hotel and several stores. In 1922, Upland became an incorporated city with its own government after voters approved a proposition to do so by referendum. At that time, it was one of only a few cities statewide that had been formed since World War I without any prior vote or discussion among the citizens themselves! The incorporation made Upland independent from county government and allowed for more development within the town limits without having to go through the cumbersome process of getting permits or approvals from other agencies like schools or fire districts etcetera required for most municipalitieships at that time! UplAND's motto is "Equality First!" which means that all residents are treated equally no matter their social status or economic standing! This policy has always been important to us as we believe that everyone deserves respect no matter who they are – wife, husband, son – regardless of their size or color!
Upland was first settled by the Chumash in the late 1700s. The area now known as Upland was part of Rancho Nuevo, which was granted to Antonio Palou in 1835. In 1847, Don Carlos Ramirez married Maria Antonia Lomas and took up arms against the Mexican government. They were successful, and after a few years they moved to what is now downtown Los Angeles. There they started a cattle ranch that produced milk and beef for Southern California residents. The Palou family continued running their ranch until it was taken over by speculators in the early 1900s.
