Upland, California is a small town in the Central Valley of California. The population was 5,437 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. The name "Upland" first surfaced in 1853 when Waddell J. Overstreet named a small tract of land after his father's home state of Oregon. At that time there were no vineyards or other wine-growing areas in central California. Today, cattle and agriculture are prominent industries in Upland, with some buildings used as stores or office complexes for local residents and businesses. The townsite was developed primarily as an agricultural community during World War II because of its strategic location near major military installations such as Fort Bates and Camp Pendleton on both sides of Interstate 15 (now I-805). In addition, many people who worked at these locations built homes here during their wartime years; this led to the nickname "Camp Upland." Most recently, development around town has been limited to new housing developments designed for middle-income residents; this has helped keep Upland largely intact since World War II. One significant event that took place in Upland during those years was the famous Battle of Pershing Field which took place between November 8th – 11th 1944 over three days across two valleys inside Los Angeles County beside what is now downtown Los Angeles

Upland, California is located in the Central Valley of California, and it has been inhabited by the Mono people for over 10,000 years. The first Europeans to explore this area were members of the Spanish expedition that sailed from San Diego in 1542, which was then part of Mexico. They named this area Yuma County after Yuma River, which they saw on their journey. The land that now makes up Upland was first used for farming by the Mono people. However, because there wasn’t much rainfall here during most of the year, these farmers had to use irrigation water to grow crops. This led to some problems though; because there wasn’t a lot of water available, some parts of Upland became very dry and dusty. This made life difficult for everyone who lived here. Eventually, Rancho La Hacienda was founded by Antonio López de Santa Anna in 1821 as a way to improve agriculture in this area. It consisted of about 50 acres (20 hectares) of land and it was leased out to different farmers each year. Because it was an official rancho, anyone who wanted access to it could buy it from Santa Anna at any time! López de Santa Anna also built a small church on his property one time! He didn’t have much success with farming though so he decided to move onto other things soon afterwards. However, he left behind a lasting legacy when he started giving away free land in Upland so that people could build homes on top of it instead of using Indian labor to do this kind of work! It wasn’t until after his death that someone started really looking into how best to improve agricultural production in Upland. In 1868–69 American Scientist John Wesley Powell took an aerial view of Upland and its surroundings and he found out that there were lots of high mountain ranges running through the area! This meant that if you wanted your crops to be grown successfully here you neededto find wayside ridges or valleys where the mountains stuck out like walking sticks! 2 years later another group called The Gold Rush started happening here too- these people were looking for new veins of gold near Asotin Lake which they thought would be rich enough to justify further exploration! Unfortunately for them though they only discovered a few minor amounts of gold before finally going home!. So although Rancho La Hacienda did help increase agricultural production back then – ultimately it didn’t lead anywhere useful ever again because there weren’t any more resources available locally ().

Upland is located in the eastern Mojave Desert of California, about 135 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It was part of Imperial County until 1872, when it became part of the newly formed Los Angeles County. The area now includes much of what is today Orange and Riverside counties. The name "Upland" appears to be derived from a place called "Flatland" in Imperial County which was said to be flat as a pancake and surrounded by high mountain ranges. The first Europeans to visit this area were Giovanni da Verona and his party on July 28, 1540, while traveling south from San Diego through present-day Joshua Tree National Park. In 1852, A George Rancho sale plat map shows the rancho lying within what is now Upland Township and portions of present day Diamond Bar, Cathedral City, Banning and Lancaster Counties including parts of today's Corona del Rey (Lancaster), Hermosa Beach (Orange) and West Covina (Riverside) Cities. In 1864 there were 708 acres sold for $2 per acre bringing total acreage acquired by George Rancho over 8 years to 2 square miles with an average price per acre of $8 A later map also shows that George had subdivided some land into townships: Lompoc (1866), Downey (1868), Porterville (1870), Indio Heights subdivision No. 1 (1871), Indio Heights subdivision No. 2 (1872). By 1888 there were 206 men who lived on or near the rancho working on an average farm sizeof 103 acres yielding a net income of $1,096 per year
