On January 1, 1941 Upland merged with Walnut Creek into one municipality which continued its name change until 1972 when it reverted back to Upland once again effective November 1st due to lack of funds from the City Council for that year’s budget increase (the original 1971 merger proposal failed because there were no objections from either party). The current mayor is Donny Youngblood who took office on October 17th following successful election on March 13th not long after his predecessor resigned due to health reasons only two weeks after being elected Mayor; Harry Goodwin had been running unopposed for six years before that point having been appointed by then-Councilmember Norma Jablonski who also served as interim Mayor during Youngbloods term while he recovers from surgery following a heart attack that same year which led him to temporarily retire from public service pending his recovery fully recovered).
