Upland is a small town in San Diego County, California. The population was 5,023 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Oceanside and Vista. The first Europeans to visit what is now Upland were Spanish missionaries in 1769. Mission San José de la Union was founded adjacent to present-day Upland on land which had been part of Rancho Encinal de las Amigas del Norte. The mission served as a center for trade with Mono and other Native American tribes. In 1821, the Mexican government sold Rancho Encinal to Bernardino Cervantes y Peña, who donated it to the United States in 1848 as part of Alta California Grant. In 1881, when Interstate 10 was built through central San Diego County, Upland became an incorporated town under the name of Encinitas. By 1906, however, thanks in part to its prime location between two major highways (I-10 and State Route 69), Upland's growth had led it to reincorporate as a city under its current name on January 1st of that year. During World War II much of Encinitas' housing stock were destroyed by fire; however, most fared better than many areas within San Diego County because they were not caught up in battle (itself one reason why their recovery took longer). On July 15th 1948 Mayor Harry Ahern petitioned City Council for annexation into neighboring Vista due toEncinitas' growing population but this proposal failed after a vote of only 3-2 against annexation despite strong pleas from Mayor Ahern and Vice President Humphrey McNamara who represented both communities well within City Hall during those early days of incorporation process In 1990 City Manager Norma Chavez recommended annexing parts ofEncinitas back into Vista after market research showed that such an annexation would increase property values by $5 million dollars while reducing traffic congestion around downtown Vista This recommendation was accepted by councilmember Don Kipperman with 4-1 approval and Annexation took place on November 6th 1990 creating what is today known as Old Town Eastside

In 1937, Dr. Edward Condon developed another type of spectacles known as Snellen's glasses which featured five lenses on each side instead of three and were designed to be worn low on the nose to allow better vision while driving or operating machines. At first, these new types of spectacles were met with mixed reactions because they required different eye-wear habits than those used before. However, over time people began to appreciate the improvements that these new spectacles brought and they became very popular! By 1960, nearly half a million pairs of Snellen's glasses had been sold! In 1951, Raytheon Company introduced their famous Bausch & Lomb Spectacle Frame which was revolutionary in its own right because it allowed users to view pictures and video directly through their eyeglasses! Today, optical accessories continue to play an important role in our lives by providing us with superior vision during everyday activities such as working or playing outside.

Upland is a city in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 71,853 at the 2010 census. Upland is located on the east bank of the Stanislaus River and it is bordered by Paramount Boulevard to the north and east, Pico Boulevard to the south, and University Drive to the west. The first permanent residents of what would become Upland were Europeans who came through Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in 1795. They named their land Rancho Santa Anita after one of their Stations ofthe cross which had been established near Byers Ferry in 1824. In 1847, John Sutter opened up what became known as Sutter's Lands in what is now Upland when he purchased 640 acres (248 ha) from Daniel Humboldt for $5 per acre ($2 per ha). The grant covered most of modern-day Upland except for a small portion that extends into neighboring Sherman Oaks on the eastern edge of town. In 1870, railroad tracks were built through rancho lands adjacent to present-day Upland and nearby Beaumont Park; development began immediately along Railroad Avenue with early homes constructed around mileposts 1-4. Today, many streets in downtown include this name: Railroad Avenue (northwest side), First Street (east side), Second Street (southwest side), Third Street (northwest corner), Fourth Street ( southeast corner), Fifth Street ( southwest corner) and Sixth Street/Pico Boulevard northwest corner). During World War II local companies produced munitions including General Electric's Hollywood Division at 7800 Westlake Blvd., Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works at 6200 North Figueroa Ave., Brown & Williamson Ammunition Plant at 9000 Bunker Hill Rd., Fairchild Aircraft Corporation's Glendale Heights Arsenal at 1400 East Shea Blvd., Douglas Aircraft Company's Downey Airport near 10400 South La Brea Ave., and other companies such as Ford Motor Company's Willow Grove Arsenal near Weldon Air Force Base northeast of Corona del Mar before being closed down or moved elsewhere during peacetime production. There are still a few remaining munitions plants active today: Western Arms Manufacturing Inc.'s El Segundo factory produces .50 caliber rifles using 3M latex adhesive tapes; Ballistics Industries Inc.'s Murrieta facility manufactures ammunition used by law enforcement agencies
Upland is a census-designated place in Inyo County, California, United States. Its population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. The name was given to the area by postmasters because it had no railroad tracks and onlya few small trees.
