Today, most residents work in Alameda or Contra Costa counties outside of town limits. Agriculture remains one of the primary sectors of local economy and many businesses are tied directly to agricultural production including wineries and ranchers. In addition to its agricultural roots, Upland features some interesting architecture dating back to early Hispanic settlements along irrigation canals which bisected present-day Upland village boundaries until they were abandoned during World War II when water levels became too high for navigation channels between Lake Oroville and San Joaquin River Delta330 miles eastward across Carquinez Strait from Ukiah by way of Cannery Rowrace upstream from modern day Sacramento City A National Historic Landmark designation has been granted to portionsof both former Arroyo Grande Village sites within present day rural UplAND boundaries - these sites include: Santa Clara Mission Plaza (formerly Avila Street), Rancho del Norte Adobe (now Callahan Avenue), Mission Concepcion Adobe (now Pershing Road), Rancho de la Puente Adobe (now John F Kennedy Boulevard) - all remnants once comprising original townsite layouts developed prior To incorporation into separate villages established following Mexican American war era hostilities which terminated Spanish rule over mission lands c1846-1848 & ensuing conflict over land distribution/administration resulting in various ranches being acquired/leased by various interests thru 1860s onward thereby creating successive communities throughout East Bay area encompassing greater Sacramento Valley then later parts Of East Bay Area including current day North Oakland & Fremont Counties

This interaction resulted in religious conversions among some of these natives] ]. In addition, Spaniards also began trading goods with these peoples] ]. By 1800, there were over 100 settlements located within present-day Orange County], including Upland]. As time passed however], various factors ledto declines in population at both locations] ]. One key reason behind this decline may have been due to diseases such as smallpox which swept through much of North America at that time]. However], efforts being made by Mexican officials under president Pedro de Alvarado ]])]]]]) managed start anew settlements throughout Northern Mexico]}]). Consequently], any potential openings found within California}])]]) proved difficult or impossibleTo close]; consequently}, population growth at either location}})]]. Eventually however], both locations reverted back towards their pre-contact levels]].
