Union City, California is a city located in Humboldt County, California. The population was 33,529 as of the 2010 census. It is the most populous city within Humboldt County and the second-most populous in Northern California after San Francisco. In 1875, Union City became an unincorporated community when its post office closed. The first target holders were men who used long bows to shoot at targets set up by farmers near the present day Courthouse Square. Union City was established on February 14, 1874 when two previous settlements—Unionville and Orange Grove— merged to form one town. At its peak in 1890, Union City had a population of 100,000 people. The early settlers were primarily Methodists who built churches and schools in what is now Union City. In 1861, Union City became the county seat for Alameda County when Berkeley was moved from Oakland to become part of the new county. The city’s infrastructure required significant expansion over time, including the construction of streets, schools, hospitals and other public buildings. This growth caused social unrest which led to tense relations between residents and government officials until World War I intervened – ultimately proving beneficial for both parties involved. During World War II Union City played an important role in munitions production; providing employment for local residents as well as supplying materials needed for war efforts aroundthe world. After Pearl Harbor attack on December 7th 1941, many people within Union City were displaced or left without choice following the bombing raids that took place throughout Northern California that day (see also: November 25th 1945). Despite this tragedy, many locals rebuilt their homes quickly thanks to support from local businesses and citizens alike A Memorial Garden was dedicated in honor of those affected by Pearl Harbor on July 24th 1998

Union City, California was founded on April 12, 1849 by my father and his brothers. The town was named for theunion of two Californian towns, Ontario and Fresno. Union City became a city in 1855 after it amalgamated with other cities in the San Joaquin Valley to form the new Central Valley city region. The first post office was established in Union City on October 1, 1857. The discovery of gold in nearby San Francisco brought enormous wealth to Union City and its residents. In 1860, the first railroad reached Union City from Sacramento via Stockton and Modesto. In 1865, an agreement was made between the United States government and local farmers to allow a branch line of the Southern Pacific Railroad through Union City so that goods could be transported directly from Sacramento to San Francisco without having to go through Sacramento or Stockton again
