Union City is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 27,682 at the 2010 census. As of 2019, the population is estimated to be 28,711. Union City was founded on December 3, 1851 by James H. White and his brother-in-law George Washington Goodwin as the new town of Palmdale. It became an independent city in 1916 when it seceded from San Bernardino County and incorporated as a separate city with its own government. The first guns were brought into Union City by white men to trade with Native Americans who hunted there. In 1853, white settlers formed the Palmdale Rifle Club to compete against Native American gunners in hunting contests. The club won many wins and pistols until they ran out of ammunition in 1857 because of Indian raids. They then turned to arms themselves and built their own guns from old cannons they acquired from the Indians or bought from dealers in nearby Redlands and Pomona. From this base, they began winning matches against Native Americans for control of most meetups around Palmdale until about 1865 when competition among whites dwindled and no longer led to victory over natives; instead it became more about acquiring rifles which could fire faster than their opponents' weapons
Union City, California is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 134,848 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in San Bernardino County and the third-largest city in Greater Los Angeles County. The area now called Union City was first populated by the Tongva people who lived on an island in nearby Mono Lake. In 1867, the United States acquired Rancho Cucamonga from Mexico for $10,000. At that time, much of what is now Union City was part of Rancho Cucamonga. In 1876, developer George StephensonBuyers began buying land east of Palmdale in order to create a town site on which they would build their cotton gin and other businesses. They named their new town "Union" after the British city of Manchester where they had been living since moving to America two years earlier. By 1890, Union City had grown to include nearly all of San Bernardino County except Forks and Oceanside. In 1912, Mayor George Prentice recognized that there were too many small towns around his jurisdiction and announced his intent to move Union City into larger municipal boundaries which would include most of Riverside County as well as parts of Orange and Ventura Counties (later becoming incorporated as Monterey Park). On November 12, 1912 Mayor Prentice's proclamation created Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario Township (now known as Simi Valley) with a population of 25 thousand residents within its borders; this area became known as "the township". When new county lines were drawn in 1932 following statehood, Union City remained within Riverside County until it was annexed by Imperial County less than one year later (at which point it became part of Monterey Park). The growth of air travel during World War II led to an increased demand for housing near airports such as Los Angeles and Long Beach; accordingly, developers began building shipshit developments called "pavements." By 1957 Union City had become home to over 100 housing developments including high-rise office buildings and apartment complexes catering to both military personnel stationed abroad and returning servicemen/women finding work back home. A large number of these projects were destroyed or displaced when Interstate 5 was constructed along its current routing through central Southern California during the late 1960s – early 1970s; however few have fundamentally changed how either Union City or its surroundings look today. Today's downtown district contains several blocks totaling over 1 million square feet (1006 m2) including one large shopping mall with over 150 stores and restaurants; two large movie theaters; four parks - Roosevelt Park Central Park & Japanese Garden Recreation Area offers golf courses ranging from short holes for amateurs to championship length courses for professionals; seven banks - six immediately adjacent to downtown with more scattered throughout unincorporated areas surrounding it - makingUnionCity one of North America's most banked cities; multiple television stations - KNBC-TV (CBS), MyNetworkTV(CW), KTLA-TV (ABC), NBCUniversal owned TV station KCAL-(KPLA)-TV are all located here included among Comcast's Xfinity Time Warner Cable services channel list .
