As they drove through central San Bernardino County they passed near present day Cathedral City and saw high peaks such as Mount Wilson and Mount Whitney ahead; these landmarks convinced Cannon that this area was perfect for Mormon settlement and he ordered Pratt to select a site for Zion's future capital city – what would be called "the Promised Land." The original intention was for Union City to serve as both a business center for local farmers and consumers and also as an educational hub for Native American students attending missions abroad; however, due to various factors (including financial difficulties) it never grew beyond its early growth stages. However, over time Union City slowly began to gain laurels not only among locals but also from outsiders who started visiting its fledgling businesses and professional circles; gradually becoming one of southern California's most popular tourist destinations thanks largely to its location within easy driving distance of Angeles National Forest Preserve which offered access to many interesting hiking trails as well as wide variety of cultural attractions including several art galleries including Mathers Gallery & Museum which opened its doors in 1907 Today Union City remains one of Southern California's most vibrant locales with lively nightlife along with some excellent shopping options available should visitors decide to make the trek out there - especially if they are lookingto experience something truly unique about this part of southcentral California!
