The early settlers purchased land near the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers, which would later become Union City. Ammunition production began in earnest in 1875, and today Union City is home to one of the largest ammunition manufacturing plants in the United States. The first ammunition factory in Union City was built on Main Street by J.H. Kelleher & Sons. This facility produced arms for both internal and external purposes until it closed its doors in 1886. In 1893, a new munitions plant was built on Third Street by contractor Wm. Hurlbuts & Sons. This facility produced artillery shells and other munitions until it closed its doors in 1898. In 1903, a new munitions factory was built on Sixth Avenue by George Condon & Sons Limited. This facility became operational with the production of rifle rounds, machine guns, grenades and other weapons for military use throughout World War I and II. In 1949, advances were made within the ammo industry that would see Union City become an center for ammo manufacturing once again: The company opened a new plant on Mechanic Boulevard that manufactured high-quality rounds for handguns and rifles alike as well as ammunition cases for storage into the 21st century! Today’s Ammunition Manufacturing Company continues to produce quality rounds at their old location while also expanding their product line to include reloading supplies and accessories!

The discovery of oil reserves near South Pasadena led to rapid growth for Union City throughout the 1920s until World War II stopped new investment there because of wartime rationing. A steady flow of immigrants arrived over ensuing decades including many Jews fleeing Nazi Germany; they brought with them their religion, culture, artisanship skills, businesses and institutions such as synagogues and hospitals established before they left homeland – all these elements helped form what are now some of Southern California's most influentialJewish communities outside major metropolitan areas such as Tel Aviv or Jerusalem
