Ukiah, California is a small town located in Mendocino County, California. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ukiah–Watsonville, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ukiah was first settled by Anglo-Saxon English miners in 1847 and traders in 1851. Its name means "unleashable fawn." The town became a railroad depot in 1872 and prospered as a bedroom community for workers on the nearby Central Pacific Railroad. In the 1920s, Ukiah began to attract artists and bohemians who flocked to itsartisanal shops and cafes. However, during World War II it served as an army training center until it was shut down due to bombing raids by Japan. After the war, many businesses closed but some continued to operate until they were taken over by new owners or went out of business. In recent years Ukiah has become known for its wine industry and wineries including Kuiken Vineyards (founded by Edward Kuiken), Purcell Cottage Winery (owned by Dick Raymond) and Vintners' Choice Winery (owned by Donny Bacardi). As of 2015 there are more than 30 wine businesses operating in Ukiah with 3% of the total population claiming to be Wine Spectator's "Bestand Worst Boozers" Award winner! The economy has been growing steadily since 2000 with employment growth occurring mostly in service industries such as health care and retail trade while manufacturing has shrunk slightly overall because of declines in demand from countries like China that have replaced U.S jobs in export production."

Ukiah is a small town located in the heart of California's wine country. The tiny community has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years and has been mentioned in ancient Oregon and Nevada journals. In 1846, the area was part of Mexico and was known as Rancho Ukiah. In 1862, the name changed to Ukiah after Captain James Cook's first voyage through the Pacific Ocean. The town began to grow rapidly during World War II when many American soldiers were stationed here. Today, Ukiah is a thriving community with a rich history that can be seen on its buildings, streets, and businesses. The first European settlers in what is now Ukiah arrived in 1847. They were Frenchmen who named their land Forks Bay because of the forks of the bay they saw ahead of them on their journey westward from Quebec City. By 1850, there were twenty-six Europeans living in Forks Bay; seven men, eleven women and four children. By 1863, there were ninety-eight people living in Ukiah; thirty-four men, thirty-six women and sixteen children. In 1846, Captain James Cook sailed into San Francisco Bay on his third voyage around America and discovered what would become known as California - an area that still contains parts of today's Ukiah village (including present day Main Street). US Commodore David Dixon decided to explore this new land further than he had before due to its potential for gold mining since it lay at an intersection where two great rivers met - both those rivers being named Sacramento River after Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's brother Emperor Alexander I of Russia who had conquered California during the Mexican War (1853-1856). Commodore Dixon ordered his captain to chart out a route between San Francisco Bay and points north along these two great rivers so that he could find this new land which lay within America's boundaries even though it was not part of Mexico at that time! This order led to explorer George Waddleton sailing downriver toward San Francisco Bay on July 27th 1848 while Lieutenant John Cranch led another boat upriver toward Point Arena searching for similar clues about this new land without achieving any success whatsoever! Captain Cook never reached California but his discovery did bring about more exploration by other sailors including Lt Cranch who sighted Mount Shasta on February 17th 1850 just upstream from where Captain Cook had found it less than two weeks earlier! On March 6th 1850 Capt ACorn discovered Mono Lake while exploring offshore from Point Arena – one ofAmerica’s most important natural resources at that time! This discovery would have significant consequences for both future prospectors looking for GOLDINSTEAD LAND near Mono Lake as well as later explorers such as William Golding who made some very interesting discoveries near these same shores including Mission Peak which he called “Mount Shasta”! These early explorations also boosted tourism development throughout much of Northern California starting with Menlo Park becoming home to the world’s first Disneyland theme park just twenty miles away from downtown Los Angeles!!! It wasn't until 1865 when Colonel Solomon Stearns became interested in this newly discovered region triggering another round of settlement growth across alluvial soils extending from Napa Valley eastward into Sonoma County!!!!! colonel Stearns also donated 8 square miles (or 2/3 acre) called Goodyear Meadows adjacent to Calistoga Countyline northwestward into Sonoma County!!!! After hearing about this valuable property donation from colonel Stearns locals soon set about building homes thereon quickly making it one ofthe most influential towns within easy driving distanceof Sonoma County Headquarters!!!!! In 1870 we moved our post office herefrom Redding due to increased populationdensity!!!!!!!!!! We are now over 100 years old having originally settled here in 1847!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are several museums located throughout town showing local history including pictures & artefacts taken right hereabouts during pioneer days
In 1847, a group of men from Ukiah founded the town of Ukiah on the north coast of California. At first it was called simply "Ukiah," but in 1851, the town's name was changed to honor General John C. Fremont. The town grew rapidly and by 1870 it had an population of over 1,000 people. In 1872, the first post office was opened in Ukiah and in 1878, the first telephone line was installed.
