By 1893, when Twentynine Palms became part of Riverside County (later Riverside), there were over 100 businesses along First Street including stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy’s Department Store, Jiggs Bazaar Chinese Grocery Store (now defunct) and Ralston Purina Company’s Pabst Brewery store which still operates today under different ownership). During this time period many millionaires such as Harry Houdini lived or visited hereabouts while running various shows around town – he even had a private train stop here!
