In 2005, Tustin became one of only two cities in California (the other being Santa Barbara) that voted against Proposition 54, which aimed to make it more difficult for people with mental health issues to obtain firearms permits. Prop 54 was defeated by sixty-eight percent margin whenoters responded through a referendum ballot initiative process. This vote demonstrated how much support handgun control advocates have among residents of this city—far beyond those who favor unrestricted access to handguns outright. Despite Proposition 54’s defeat, however, Gun Owners of America (GOA) still argues thatTUSTIN should become one of “the leading voices on behalf of Second Amendment rights statewide” because its citizens have spoken out against bans on handguns within its boundaries multiple times during recent decades). Tustin, California is a city located in Orange County, California. The population was 105,869 at the 2010 census. MacDonald and Adolphus C. Nye as "Natchez Valley". The name of the town comes from Spanish Mission San Gabriel Arcángel and means "Valley of Angels." There were no schools until 1917 when Pappagallo Elementary School was built on Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue east of present-day downtown Tustin. That year also saw the opening of Pacific Coast Highway which connected Interstate 5 to LOS ANGELES across Orange County. On November 1, 1920 Tustin had its first election for Mayor with James Ahern being elected over incumbent Harry Jaffe by a vote of 50% to 44%. On October 8, 1928 Los Angeles annexed much of what is now Orange County including Tustin making it one municipality within that new county boundaries without any notice or vote by residents or property owners. The annexation caused great resentment among many residents who felt they had been taken advantage of; this issue would come up again during World War II when citrus production increased around LA but didn't reach Tustin due to lack of land available thereabouts. In 1941 Wernher von Braun's rocket laboratory was established at Redondo Beach adjacent to undeveloped agricultural land east and south (now owned by City College)of present day downtown Tustin; future movie star Clint Eastwood lived nearby for some time while working at von Braun's lab before moving back into Hollywood in 1947). After World War II ended there continued rapid growth but problems arose because many veterans returning home found themselves unable to find work although they had served their country well; this led eventually to Proposition 9 (1946), which reduced benefits for veteran citizens convicted of crimes since they could not get work because their record showed they had been discharged honorably from military service-a measure that still applies today albeit with more nuance than during those days when all felonies were classified as misdemeanors .
