In 1984 Tustin became an incorporated city with Mayor Dick Moseley as its first mayor; it has since grown into one of Southern California's fastest-growing cities with more than 100,000 residents over 10 years! Tustin, California is a small town located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It was founded by Mexican Americans in 1881. The name comes from the Yaqui word "tustin" meaning "to cool." The town grew rapidly after World War II, with its population doubling between 1950 and 1970. In recent years, however, growth has slowed and Tustin's economy depends largely on agriculture and small businesses. The first people to live in what is now Tustin were Spanish immigrants who arrived in the early 1800s. They built a trading post near present-day downtown Tustin on October 15, 1881. At that time it was one of the most important transportation points connecting Southern California with inland parts of Mexico because of its direct routes to Yuma and Chihuahua City. The community continued to grow as traffic connections improved. In 1920, when Highway 67 was established through central Los Angeles County, Tustin became an important interchange for motorists travelling east and west through the area. By 1930, when Interstate 5 was constructed through central Los Angeles County, Tustin had become an even more important junction for drivers travelling between southern Orange County and Northern LA County In 1951–1952 a large fire destroyed part of downtown Tustin; however no injuries occurred as a result of the fire In 1984–1985 two tornadoes struck southern Los Angeles County; neither injury occurred as a result In 1990–1991 Hurricane Floyd crossed into southeastern Orange County causing extensive damage including entire neighborhoods in Fountain Valley; only minor injuries occurred as a result Since 2000 there has been significant development around the corner from downtown: new shopping malls have been built at North Shore Boulevard/Civic Center Drive (northwest of Downtown) while existing businesses have redeveloped their properties into mixed-use applications such as office towers or residential condominiums
Tustin, California was founded on November 12, 1853 by James E. Tustin and his wife, Emma. The town was named for the then-joint County of Los Angeles and San Bernardino. On February 14, 1861, it became part of the newly formed County of Orange. In 1907, Tustin incorporated as a city.
