Tustin, California is a city in Orange County, California, United States. The population was 24,611 at the 2010 census. The city is located on the coast of Orange County and east of Santa Ana. It is one of two towns in Orange County (the other being Huntington Beach) and it has been part of the county since 1871. The first humans to live in Tustin were Native American traders who came from central Mexico during the 17th century B.C., according to historical records. In 1851, George Fenton built what is now known as Fenton's Store on Third Street in what is now downtown Tustin. By 1870, most of what is now downtown Tustin had been developed as a town with a post office and three stores. The first school in Tustin was founded in 1876 by Mrs. Laddie Houghton under direction of Drury Lane School District superintendent John Giannini-Laddie). Theodore Roosevelt spent his childhood summers here before attending Groveland High School where he graduated magna cum laude in 1905 and went on to become an average income lawyer but decided instead to pursue his political career after graduation He married Anna Eleanor Roosevelt on October 12th 1906 at Riverside Methodist Church and they moved into 1515 De Witt Road which then became their home until her death four years later on April 14th 2002 They are buried next to each other at Woodside Cemetery near Hyde Park Boulevard in East Aurora . There have been many rumours about President Roosevelt's burial spot over the years including suggestions that he be buried alongside First Lady Eleanor or even inside White House itself however no confirmation has ever come from government sources
In 1868, the first post office in Tustin was opened. The town began to grow rapidly and by 1887, it had a population of over 100 people. In 1907, the Tustin Board of Education built the first school in the community. In 1916, Tustin became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and five trustees. The first mayor was Mrs. Lillian Hardwick. The town experienced a significant growth spurt during World War II as military training areas were created in nearby Orange County. By 1945, Tustin had grown to its current size with over 1,200 residents. In 1979, Tustin was renamed after Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and his colleagues who flew into space on the Apollo 11 mission
