Tustin, California is one of the most well-known and historical communities in Southern California. It has a rich Ammo history that goes back to 1892. The city was founded on October 15th, 1892 by George W. Tustin and his wife Anna Maria Tustin as a small town located in Ventura County. At the time, there were only two rifle sights in the area - an old three-gun range near Union City and a sawmill near Santa Paula – so ammunition was needed for both. In 1894, Ammunition manufacturer John Brown & Company moved to Tustin from San Francisco after winning the first U.S. gunfight against Mexican bandits at Glorietta Mesa outside of Los Angeles (the “Battle of the Pueblos”). The company adopted the name “John Brown Arms Ltd.,” became one of America’s leading firearms manufacturers, and produced rifles, shotguns, handguns and machine guns until its bankruptcy in 1968. During World War II ammo production helped support military efforts all over North America including bomb bombing raids over Japan; Hiroshima; Nagasaki; Okinawa; Tinian; Guam; Saipan; Iwo Jima and Pearl Harbor Ammunition production also took place at local airfields such as Altadena Army Air Field which supported U2 spy missions during the Cold War ; Beaumont Army Air Field which conducted training flights for fighter pilots during World War II ; Naval Air Station Miramar which served as an air base for Navy aviation during World War II ; and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton where troops trained for amphibious assaults during Operation Endeavor . After WWII local Ammo manufacturing stopped but remnants continued until 1984 when ownership changed hands again with Cabelas Inc taking control followed by Alcoa Aluminum becoming operational again with twelve stores throughout Southern California

Tustin's history with ammunition begins with the early days of firearms. The first guns in Tustin were made by John Jacob Astor and his son, Jacob Astor II. In 1858, they founded the G.I. Joe Company, which manufactured rifles and shotguns for military use. This company was later acquired by Winchester Arms Corporation in 1903. Theodore Roosevelt visited Tustin in 1911 and shot an autoloading rifle at the Eureka Gun Club on November 3rd. He is considered to be the first American president to visit Tustin and shoot a firearm there. The rifle he used was a Winchester Model 1895 Sporting Carbine that he had purchased from dealer H.H Neuman in 1911.
