One of the first targets to be shot at Turlock was a 100-pounder cast by local foundryman Samuel Merrill. The city's rich history with Target Shooting can be traced back to when it was a small frontier town on the edge of California. In 1887, Samuel Merrill set up his foundry in what is now Turlock and began casting 100-pounders for use at rifle ranges around the state of California. By 1895, there were over 20 rifle ranges in Southern California using 100-pounders from Merrill's Foundry. In addition, other area businesses joined forces with Samuel Merrill to produce 100-pound targets for use at archery range events across Northern and Central California. These targets quickly became an important part of CaliGun culture and continue to be used today as part of many Rifle & Pistol matches throughout Southern CA!

Turlock is a small town in the middle of nowhere, in San Bernardino County, California. It was founded in 1884 by Hiram Bingham and his family. The population was 1,887 at the 2010 census. Turlock's history dates back to 1884 when Hiram Bingham and his family moved from Ohio to California. They were the first American settlers in what is now San Bernardino County. In 1885, Bingham started a grocery store on Main Street in Turlock with four employees and $8 per week in profits. He continued to run the store until it closed its doors for good in 1927. In 1928, Hiram Bingham Jr., son of Hiram Bingham Sr., opened a mercantile business on Third Street called The Grapeseed Store. This business became successful and lasted until 1984 when it too closed its doors for good. In 1986, Ralph Vernon bought The Grapeseed Store from his father-in-law and reopened it as an auto parts store known today as Vernon's Auto Parts & Tire Center located at 5th Avenue and First Street NE in Turlock proper. Vernon continued this success until his death in 2003; however, the store has since been sold several times and is currently vacant.. The turLOCK Museum (www.turlocksmuseum.org) is housed within The Grapeseed Store which also served as the museum's headquarters from 1986-2007; during that time it housed over 100 artifacts related to local history including items from Hiram BingHAM Sr.'s grocery stores dating back to 1885!
