Turlock has a rich ammo history dating back to the early 1800s. The town was founded by Donner and his partners in 1848, and soon became known for its production of gunpowder and shot. Ammunition production continued until the late 1920s, when World War Idependencies led to a decline in demand. By the 1930s, however, ammunition production had resumed and Turlock remained one of the largest Ammo producing towns in California until the late 1990s. The first firearms factory in Turlock was built on what is now First Street. It produced cannonball rounds for use by militia forces during the Mexican-American War. In 1859, Count von Geyer opened a second armory at Third and Main Streets which quickly became one of the most important ammunition producers in California. Gunnery instructor Johann Nepomuk Kapp designed new breechloading rifles for this company which were named after French aristocrats who had supported American independence during that war: Napoleonic Wars Napoleon I (1804-1814), Josephine (Queen of France from 1830-1848), Charles X (King of France from 1870-1914) and Ferdinand Maximilian (Emperor of Brazil from 1856-1858). During World War II, Turlock became one of the leading munitions factories in America with its involvement in both Pearl Harborand Midway Island attacks respectively. At full capacity all aspects of munitions manufacturing including Shot Blasting, Firing Range Operations, Powder Mills & Storage were carried out at this plant including over 1 million rounds per day processed through 11 Production Lines! After World War II ended there was an increase in interest within America for international arms control treaties such as The Arms Convention Of Verona treaty banning certain types of nuclear weapons testing; as well as Vietnam peace negotiations where large stocks of military surplus ammunition were stockpiled by America while North Vietnam stockpiled ballistic missiles with potential delivery systems into South Vietnams! On 7/1/1996 Thurrock residents voted to become part of Tyrrell County! This event marked an era change within our community where we accepted responsibility for our own future rather then waiting on outside organizations or bureaucrats to solve our problems! With this new attitude came a renewed focus on our local economy with plans being developed to revive some dormant businesses such as Manufacturing Ammo Products Inc., Rifle Ranges Ltd., and Wildlife Outfitters! Today Turlock celebrates its century anniversary with many events celebrating its past including Artisan Ammunition exhibit opening; 4th Annual Pumpkinfest; 50th Anniversary celebration honoring WWI veterans & their families; 100th anniversary parade celebrating native Son's role in Town's history

The first ammunition in Turlock was a shot of black powder on July 4, 1851. A store called the "Oakland Rifle and Pistol Shop" located at 215 S. 2nd Street started selling powder and bullets in 1852. The rifle and pistol shop closed in 1865 but the ammo still remains today.

It is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River and is surrounded by agricultural lands. The Turlock-Oakhurst Bridge crosses the river near Oakhurst. Turlock was founded in 1871 by Captain James A. Cook as one of several mines in Kern County, then part of Mexico. When California became a U.S. state in 1850, the area became part of Turlock Township and later Turlock City (1889). In 1919, city officials decided to change their name to honor General George Armstrong Custer, who had died that year during World War I at an American military base in BofA Ranch outside Alice Springs, Australia. At that time there were only two streets named after generals - Custer Drive and Custer Way - so Turlock City chose "Custer" as its new name and also began issuing city IDs with that moniker. The community experienced some growth during World War II when businesses opened up around the Navy Yard and Arsenal Ammunition Plant on Elkhorn Boulevard; however it experienced a significant decline following the war when most manufacturing switched from local to overseas production due to wartime economiesakiaation (the post-war recession). Today's economy depends largely on agriculture which has been strong since before farming was developed as a way of sustaining rural families living near water resources; turlocks produce approximately seventy percent of all Kern county's crop output (including meat, eggs & vegetables). In recent years there have been efforts to revive downtown retail districts including renovation/replacement of century old buildings along Euclid Street between Civic Center Avenue and First Street SE; redevelopment/opening of parcels adjacent to Veterans Memorial Coliseum totaling 2 acres between Civic Center Avenue and North First Street SE; and development/opened up acreage east of Veteran Memorial Coliseum across First Street SE from Veterans Memorial Coliseum into what will become known as "Stadium Row". As Turlock continues its journey towards becoming an urban center it has worked hard with both private partnerships Pilot Cities Corporation has formed with various non-profit organizations focused on improving public transportation access within jurisdictional boundaries while also creating opportunities for economic development through sustainable initiatives such as green roofs or rain gardens atop existing structures

Turlock was founded in 1868 by settlers from Northern California and named for John C. Turlock, who had led a party of men from Fillmore (now Fresno) to found the town on April 6 that same year. The first post office was established in 1870, and turlock meant "a place where Mormon pioneers were gathering." In 1875, turlock became an independent city under the jurisdiction of Bakersfield. The heyday of Turlock came about during World War II when many local companies produced munitions for the war effort. The city's economy turned around following the end of the war and growth continued until 1974 when it became part of downtown Bakersfield. Today, Turlock remains a small but thriving community with friendly people and great memories that date back over 100 years!
