Tracy, California is located in the Central Valley of California. It was founded in 1848 by several ranchers who were looking for a place to set up their herds of cattle. The town grew rapidly and by 1870 it had a population of over 100 people. Tracy became an important center for leather goods production and also became known as the "Rancho Capital of the World." In 1911, the Tracy Rancher's Association founded the Tracy Rifle Club. This club manufactured rifles and shotguns at their own factory in downtown Tracy. The rifle club served as a social outlet for residents of Tracy and played an important role in its development. In 1936, the city of Tracy incorporated and began to serve as its primary governing body. The city council consists of five members who are elected from individual wards. City services include law enforcement, sanitation, zoning, public health, street maintenance, and infrastructure improvements. Today, Tracy is a vibrant community with many cultural attractions including galleries, restaurants, nightlife., night schools/ vocational training programs/, theaters/ performing arts venues/, art museums/, library systems/, etc.. It has also become home to many large manufacturing companies such as Lockheed Martin Corporation (factory), Hewlett Packard Co., Motorola Inc., Intel Corp., Jabilas (manufacturer), etc..

In 1912, The General Cinema moved to its current location on Mission Boulevard and began showing films using a system called "The Tube". In 1949, Tracy became home to one of the first movie theatres in Northern California when The Regal opened on Sixth Street in downtown Tracy. It continued serving as the town's primary movie theater until it closed in 1978. By the late 1990s, most of Northern California had moved away from traditional cinema formats and began using digital video systems for screenings. Tracy's last major traditional movie theatre was The Regal on Bogue Avenue in 2001.

Tracy who was killed during World War I and his body was interred in the town of Tracy. The first post office in Tracy opened in 1887. The City of Tracy merged with the larger city of Bakersfield on January 1, 2009 to form a new Combined Statistical Area (CSA). The combined population of the two cities was 12,955 at the 2010 census. The history of Tracy begins with Captain George H. Tracy who died during World War I while serving as an officer with United States Army's 5th Cavalry Regiment near Yreka, California on October 9, 1918 while fighting against German forces amassing around 50 battalions and over 6 thousand men at that time. His body lay unidentified for more than fifty years until it was finally identified by his son after he became involved in genealogy research through AncestryDNA when he found a family tree back to Captain George H. Tracy from 1847-1920 which included several members of the original Mormon Battalion that fought for Brigham Young and served under him at Stockton before returning westward to Utah during what is now known as The Great Salt Lake Valley Campaign on April 13-1870 In honor of Captain George H. Tracy's memory and legacy within the community of Tracy along with others lost during World War I including First Lieutenant Harry Waddell who perished December 8th 1914 when his airplane crashed into Mt Shasta cliffs off Amboy Valley Rd just east of Mount Shasta about 15 miles north-northeast of Santa Rosa - all three citizens were instrumental in designating Friday November 11th each year as "Captain GHTRACY DAY" throughout Southern Kern County honoring this important civil servant and patriot whose loss we all feel keenly today years later Additionally Tracey has also become known locally for its annual Christmas Festival which takes place throughout late winter/early spring featuring various local arts & crafts exhibitors from various stateside countries etc... In recent years events have taken place such as Homecoming games between hometown team #14 Lodi Trojans (4-2) vs visiting Big Bear High School Spartans (7-1), green lawn BBQ Festivals throughout early fall attended by many local businesses owner/managers bringing their families out to enjoy some good food & company etc... It should be noted that these are not sponsored programs or initiatives conducted by any individual; they are simply things that take place annually due to their importance within our community which collectively remembers Captain GHTRACY every November11th

Tracy's ZIP code is 94510. The first Europeans to visit Tracy were Juan Bautista de Anza and his party in 1769-1770. The mission built at Tracy in 1827 was the first European settlement in this part of California. In 1853, gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill in nearby Nevada, and early miners spread out to find it. By 1860, there were over 1,000 residents living hereabouts. In 1871, General Edwin Stanton made an unsuccessful land grant to James Fenton for ranching on the east side of the river near Tracy Creek. When fruit trees failed to bear crops due to bad soil and lack of water resources, Fenton began looking for a new home for his ranch hands and families near Sacramento as well as more fertile country around Tracy township on what is now Umpqua National Forest northwest of Salemburg Heights., However he found no takers so he sold most of his land back to settlers within three years after its purchase; some 8 miles (13 km) northeast of present day Tracy on East Main Street between West Second Street and East Third Street (). This stretch now forms part of rural streetscape between Salemburg Heights and downtown Tracy.. The old adobe courthouse building built by Judge John Neely became a cultural center during World War II when troops stationed here staged rallies against fascism throughout Southern California as part of "Operation Overlord". A plaque commemorates these events inside walls still remain today inside old courtroom structure.. In 1951 local voters passed a proposition making changes to their city charter that created police department with powers including search warrants with just 72 hours notice instead of 6 weeks notice which led from then until 1973 when all law enforcement activities were transferred from Solano County Sheriff’s Department into City Hall Police Department without any vote by city residents or approval from supervisors; however this change did not go through because Supervisor Tom Bates successfully lobbied Mayor Dianne Feinstein who vetoed it..
