In 1875, Russian immigrant Ivan Pyotr Krasnov founded the Pasadena Arms Company in Pasadena. Krasnov started producing pistols and rifles using only percussion caps as ammunition. His company became one of the most successful firearms manufacturers in California during the late 1800s and early 1900s. By 1907, Ammo had become part of Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Winchester). With Winchester Ammunition came a new era for Torrance- its status as a major center for firearm manufacturing declined during World War I but increased during World War II when ammo production became an essential part of the war effort. During World War II Ammo also helped contribute to America's naval victory at Leyte Gulf by supplying guns and munitions to American forces fighting on Mindanao Island

Torrance, California is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 44,822 at the 2010 census. The Torrance Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 73,903. It is located on the Central Coast of California and between Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. The first Europeans to visit what is now Torrance were Spanish traders in 1602–3 when they sailed up the coast from Mexico City looking for trade goods. They named the place La Jolla because there was no land available to them other than Isla de la Costa (Island of the Coast). The town site was settled by members of the Russian-born fur trader Nicholas Roerich in 1845 as part of his effort to open up coastal Southern California to American settlement. He named it after his friend and business partner Ivan Roerich who had bought Rancho Los Alamos from Governor Manuel Micheltorena in 1839. Roderich's rancho extended along present day Redondo Beach Boulevard from modern day Playa del Rey eastward into what are now Carson City and Ontario townships; he also acquired additional parcels near Seal Beach including Point Conception (now Huntington Beach) and parts of Long Beach Island which formed today's Harbor Heights neighborhood. In 1849, Rounsel sold some remaining holdings in Los Alamos County to John Sutter for $4 million – making Torrance one of Sutter's original possessions within Californio territory north of San Francisco Bay. It wasn't until 1860 that an act of Congress designated Torrance as a port on the Central Coast; this followed years of debate surrounding whether or not inland ports should be built on major rivers due to sailing capabilities offered by those riverside locations such as Sacramento and Panama City. On November 15th 1870, President Ulysses S Grant signed an act creating "the Port Royal Zone" encompassing all coastal areas between San Diego Bay and Monterey Bay with exclusive right to build wharveson any river entering those waters without prior consent from both US Customs & Revenue Commissioners... thus giving birth finallyto our very own harbor." A pier was built at what is now Downtown Torrance in 1895 amidst much contention over where it should be placed: The current location seems more appropriate given its proximity to freeways but many residents voted against its construction fearing it would compete with their homespun small town feel for shopping malls like Irvine Spectrum Center & Townsquare Mall across Harbor Blvd., Pacific Wharf District - home for anchor stores Macy's & Sears - already becoming too big for Downtown Torrance which steadily lost population since 1990s Main Street corridor became a commercial strip mall instead while waterfront development continued apace with new office buildings being erected just south Of Military Drive paralleling Interstate 5E! One could say then that History repeats itself! Although things have changed overall qualityontheMarineCity has experienced several surgesinboth volumeandincomeoverthelast decade or so& yetDowntownTorrenceremainsunsustainableon eitheraccountingfronts despite efforts by various community advocates
