In 1853, he erected a small fortification on what is today Olive Way while still living at Sutter’s Fort with his family. This event marked the beginning of what would become a long tradition of military leadership in Ventura County – from Captains John Sutter to today’s commanders at CVG Air National Guard Base – through Stated Marshal Samuel Loma and Lt Gov Garret Jenson. In 1868,Captain John Sutter died suddenly at age 49 leaving his ownership and management ofSutter's Fort to his two sons James Hutton Jr., who ran it until 1893; then Charles Fenton took over until 1907 when it became part of University Park Museum after Helene Ayer bought it from Fenton heirs in 1909 . From 1901 -1909 University Park Museum was located next door on present day College Avenue where Loyola Marymount University now stands . Admission fees changed frequently due to its location; however, various items within have been preserved or are on display such as cannons that once guarded campus entrances In 1915 General Electric donated land east of Ventura Boulevard for development into City Center which included an electric light plant , movie theater and other businesses including Woolworth's department store That year also saw construction begins on current day Ventura Boulevard starting with Helene Ayer's garage which still stands west off Ivar Borge Drive
