As of the 2010 United States Census there were 506 residents in Temple City; 292 lived within the city limits and 468 lived outside them within Bakersfield proper (including unincorporated areas). As per 2008 census figures[1], 64% of all households were made up of individuals and 29% had someone living alone who was 65 years or older. The average household size was 2:14 people and the average family size was 2:41 people

With the discovery of large amounts of gold nuggets at Sutter's Mill in 1864, Temple City became a major center for goldmining operations. In 1886, whenTemple City incorporated as a city, it became one of the leading Outside Lands cities in California. During World War II, Temple City played an important role as the military base for strategic bombing campaigns against Japan. The city also hosted Expo '68 which demonstrated California's potential as an international trade destination. In recent years, Temple City has experienced significant redevelopment and gentrification due to its proximity to San Francisco and Silicon Valley.
