In the early 1800s, Temple City was a small agricultural town in southern San Bernardino County. The area now known as Temple City was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. In 1854, during the Mexican-American War, General Calles and his forces burned down several farms in what is now Temple City after they were surrounded by Mexican troops. During World War II, many people from Temple City enlisted in the military or worked on war-related projects. One of these people was John Wessels who designed and manufactured firearms for the United States Military. Wessels began manufacturing firearms at his business in 1942 and continued to do so until 1957. During this time, he also produced T-shirts to support the American GI Bill program. Many businesses have been located in and around Temple City over the years, including Interstate 805 Truck Stop which has been located on Main Street since 1955. The truck stop has served as a popular tourist spot for locals and visitors alike ever since.

The Winchesters were also the first gunmakers to mass-produce handguns in America. From 1879 until 1911, the temple city Gun Club was one of the most important organizations in the community. It was here that members could buy and sell firearms; learn about reloading techniques; shoot skeet or trap; attend meetings of the state board of fire commissioners; or become licensed physicians without having to go through traditional medical school requirements

It is part of the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario Metropolitan Statistical Area. Temple City was founded in 1887 by Mormons who had come from Utah to escape religious persecution. The town became a major railroad stop on the Central Pacific Railroad and experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century thanks to its location as a key junction for wagon trains moving eastward from the gold fields of California and Nevada. In 1907, Temple City became officially incorporated as an independent city under state law. In 1916, Temple City was hit by a tornado that killed six people and injured dozens more. During World War II, Temple City played an important role in the production of munitions and other military hardware by producing aircraft parts and other equipment used in allied campaigns such as Operation Overlord. After the war, temple city's economy declined as various factories closed down or were sold off to other companies throughout California. However, over time temple city has slowly regained some of its former prominence as a center for industry and commerce within San Bernardino County; it hosts several large manufacturing plants that have moved out of their original locations but continue to produce products here such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HP), Boeing,[1] Qualcomm[2], and Intel[3]. Today’s downtown area is one of the most vibrant in all of Southern California with restaurants, nightlife venues and art galleries dotting both blocks on two streets near Interstate 10 leading southeast into Riverside County – making it easy to enjoy all that Tempe has to offer without having to leave your comfortable home base just outside of town limits!
The city of Temple City, California was founded on October 1, 1887 by pioneers who arrived from Mexico. The town's name is derived from the Mexican word "Templo," meaning "great temple." The city grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as a result of its location in central Southern California and its access to transportation such as railroad tracks and highways. By 1920, Temple City had over 40 businesses and 100 residents. During World War II, the city became an important military relocation center due to its strategic location on Route 66. The economy of Temple City declined post-WWII but has since revived with new investment and development.
