Temple City, California is a city located in Riverside County, California. The population was 397 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The city was founded by Mormons in 1847 and named after Temple Hill, one of their religious places of worship. The Temples were a group of Latter-day Saints who left Nauvoo, Illinois to come to California in 1847. They first built a cabin on what is now the corner of Sahuarita and Euclid Streets in what is now Temple City. They also established a farm there which they used as their spiritual headquarters while they looked for land to build their temple. In 1850, they bought property on Maple Avenue between Euclid and Ontario Streets from John Whitcomb. The first temple was dedicated in 1852 and it was called the Salt Lake Temple after Utah’s capital city, Salt Lake City. The second temple was dedicated in 1865 and it became known as the Washington Monument Temple because it served as both an American presidential monument (1865-1901) and as aauxiliary sanctuary for St Peters Basilica (1902-1964). In 1974, the third temple was dedicated – this time called the Kimball Museum of Art – following construction on nearby Kimball Park which had been separately operated by the LDS church since 1916 as an art museum open to all denominations without charge to those who visited or helped make it happen. As always with temples built within LDS church boundaries (and therefore subject to regulation by church authorities), final approval went through local leadership before any alterations or exterior design could be made without prior authorization from headquarters; this included changes that increased access fees for visitors over time It should be noted that while prominent members of both Mormon leadership have resided within Temple City throughout its history (the current mayor being Rufus King), many residents have never even met an LDS leader – let alone attended services at one of their chapels or participated in temple work! There's even something called "City Lore" nowadays where old timers can gather together annually behind closed doors amongst themselves on select days& discuss things like early Chinatown efforts or how best NOT run things nowadays LOL

During World War II, production at Laclede Field led to an increase in traffic through Temple City; however, few people lived there because most workers were employed out of state or overseas. Development resumed following the war with new construction projects such as the Harmon-Coulter Airport which began operations on December 12th 1946 and served as a majorportation center for western Kern County until it closed down on December 15th 1975 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Jerry Brown after he took office promising more open space development across California including Temple City Rancho Cucamonga which would have included many new homes and businesses adjacent to Harmon Airport used for agriculture but never happened because funding ran out).
