Tehachapi, California is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of Northern California. The population was 5,819 as of 2010. It is part of the Sacramento-Arden-Arcade, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Tehachapi was Francisco Xavier Cabrillo on September 25, 1769 during his expedition from Monterey Bay to find new land route across America. He named it "Los Angeles" after the Spanish mission of Los Angeles de Cahuenga south of present day Tehachapi. In 1848, General Mariano Arguelles found gold near Tehachapi and decided toclaim the area for Mexico. A U.S.- Mexican treaty in 1853 gave possession of this region to the United States but no land grants were issued until 1862 when Governor Goodwin Miller granted two tracts totaling , east and west of Big Bear Lake. In 1893, a post office called Newville was established at an elevation of above sea level by order of Governor John Pemberton pursuant to Act No. 922 which authorized statehood for California on February 14th that year; however no mail ever reached Newville because there was no road connecting Sacramento with Placerville or Emeryville (the nearest towns). On October 2nd, 1894 a new post office was organized at Tehachapi under the name Newville and accepted by the Postal Service on November 1st following an application from local citizens Hilda Romero and Victor Martinez who had served as Postmasters at these locations prior to becoming residents of Tehachapi in 1890.* Today's ZIP code 82334 has been home to many businesses including Apple Inc., Intel Corporation, Facebook Inc., Twitter Inc., PayPal Holdings Inc., Salesforce CRM Solutions LLP and AIG Financial Services plc since its incorporation on May 1st 1984*. According to The Business Journal*, “In 1984 [Salesforce] became one of Silicon Valley’s most storied companies when it joined forces with InfoComm Group[], one of America’s leading technology services companies”* . There are also several schools located within walking distance including Bishop Amato High School* (10 minutes away) and Shasta College* (15 minutes away).

Tehachapi, California is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,748 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno-Madera-San Joaquin Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area. The towns name comes from Rancho Tehachapi de la Aguilar family that arrived in 1871 and operated a sawmill there until 1903. In 1876 USGS explorer George Haggerty discovered oil shale near present day Tehachapi and named it after him. A post office was established at Tehachapi in 1892, and the town's first school was built in 1902. The railroad reached Tehachapi by way of an 8 mile (12 km) track running through what is now Fillmore on October 1, 1914. In 1923 local rancher Waddell O'Neill donated land to the city for public use as part of its redevelopment program known as "The Great San Joaquin Valley Project". This area included much of downtown Fresno and became home to many businesses including Expressway Development Company which began developing the current downtown areas in 1954 with assistance from Army Corps of Engineers; today this company is known as Today's Progress Incorporated..
