Tehachapi, California is a small town in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 1,721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Inland Empire metropolitan area. The area that became Tehachapi was first inhabited by the Mono people and then the Chumash. The name Tehachapi comes from the word "tecuhta" meaning "place where there are wild flowers." The town was founded in 1871 as an agricultural community on Rancho Tehuantepec, about one mile east of present-day downtown Tehachapi. The railroad arrived in 1882 and soon began to bring settlers to what would become Tehachapi; many were farmers who had come looking for land near mineral rights that had been claimed by others. By 1893, when incorporation occurred, more than 100 businesses had sprung up in town including a post office, bank, livery stable and blacksmith shop. Political subdivisions began to form: Northvale (1893), southgate (1905), westvale (1909) and eastvale (1915). In 1922 a new school building was erected on State Route 46 just west of town limits; it served as both a local high school and county seat until its closure in 1976. In 1975 much of eastern Tehachapi were annexed into north Riverside County for economic reasons while most of western Tehachapani remained independent until 1994 when all but a few blocks inside city limits were annexed into De Anza City proper pursuant to Proposition 103 which granted cities such powers over their own residents within their borders subject only to various regulations set forth in state law governing municipalities elections etcetera. On July 14th 1907 two gunmen opened fire on board the train at Mojave Pass after stealing food from passengers; four people died including gunman Angel Cortez who went free because he had left his rifle behind on the platform before boarding the train. This event is generally considered to be one of Californias most notorious crimes although no definitive evidence exists linking it directly with international terrorism or gang warfare at that time Nor did any other major events occur during this period which could account for this sudden escalation in violence across southern California

Tehachapi, California is a small town located in Fresno County, California. It is bordered by the Kern River to the north and east, the Tehachapi Mountains to the south, and Mono Lake to the west. The population was 5,849 at the 2010 census. The town was named after General José Joaquín de Arguelles y Costilla, who fought in Mexico's War of Independence. The fort that served as its first post was built in 1853 by Captain James A. Hill on land donated by Rancho Tehachapi founder Manuel Nieto. In 1854, George Custer fought at Tehachapi during his pursuit of Apache chief Geronimo. At one point while engaging him, Custer ordered his troops to stop firing when they came across Native American women and children walking along the bank of the river; this event is often cited as being one of the most brutal battles in U.S.-Mexican conflict. When it became apparent that California would become a state in 1850, settlers began moving into what is nowTehachapi from all over North America including Northern Mexico and Arizona Territory. By 1858 there were few if any other settlements within than a mile of where modern-day Tehachapi stands; today’s downtown area only consists of a couple of buildings dating back to 1916 predating World War II bombing raids which destroyed much of downtown Anza-Borrego Springs also near present day towns such as Yuma and Bakersfield however many businesses have been rebuilt since then including two large shopping malls which are home to several large chains such as Macy’s and Sears respectively As early as 1859 three companies had organized themselves under contract with McDowell County for irrigation purposes: Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct Company (the first major water project in California), Doniphan Canal Company (later Doniphan & San Francisco canal company) and Cache Valley Water District (later Valley Water District). On July 17th 1860 four men--George Wetherill (5th son of Capt G Wetherill), John Sutter (brother-in-law of prospector Jedediah Smith), David Hyde Ware (son-in-law)and Hiram Maxim arrived from Fillmore County NY on horseback looking fordiversions upstream from Plumas River undercontract with United States Army lieutenant general Stephen Kearny who had just captured Mexican city Victoria on July 4th From Ventura Rica they continued downstream past Chowchilla Pass into Kings Canyon National Park where they completed their surveyof an route up Kings Canyon which they recommendedto General Kearny On August 15th Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong became Commanding Officer at US Army Post Mapleton outside Sacramento went ahead with planTo divert Truckee River through Ahwahnee Lakes watered by Southern Pacific Railroad 200 feet below present day hikers coming downriver must cross deep chasms formedby ice streams flowing out from lakes below UCLA campus before descending 1/4 mile below water level via Idyllwild canyon crossing about 10 miles east southeast from present day Bear Flag Highway
