Susanville is a small town located in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 5,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sierra foothills region. Susanville's name comes from "Susan" and "ville" meaning village or settlement in French and Spanish, respectively. The first post office in Susanville was established on February 14th, 1876. The first store in Susanville opened its doors on October 17th of that year. At the time it was the only business in town. By 1896 there were 4 stores total with a population of 10 residents. In 1912 a water tower became operational providing drinking water for all of Susanville as well as irrigation for nearby agricultural land. The originalSusanville High School was built to serve this purpose and remained open until it closed in 1978 after satanic rituals were said to have been committed there by students who used the school's restrooms as their personal god-given privy area! In 1976, local businessmen started building an amusement park called Crystal Springs which would include a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, go-karts, a pool and more! The park opened on May 7th of that year and soon became popular with locals and tourists alike! Unfortunately due to budget cuts by later owners (which included closing down most rides) Crystal Springs failed to make any money and quickly went out of business! It wasn't until 1994 when entrepreneur Ross Siegel bought the property adjacent to Crystal Springs Park from previous owner Jeffery Braunbeck (the man responsible for shutting down the park) that things began to change again at one of America's most popular amusement parks!! Siegel immediately renovated everything including adding many new rides such as an IMAX theater complete with surround sound capabilities so that visitors could enjoy all those PG movies they love without feeling guilty about it :) He also renovatedCrystal Springs Park into what is now known as simply "Seville Park." This renovation included restoring many historic structures including adding a replica of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge which has since been dismantled given its location within Seville Park! The first pair of corrective glasses were made of metal and plastic and cost $1 each. In 1927, a new company called LensCrafters was founded in Susanville by two engineers, Harry Weisz and Alfred Eisenstein. They produced high-quality eyeglasses at a fraction of the cost of other manufacturers. In 1962, Dr. Sol Weinstock opened a medical dispensary called Vision Health which became one of the largest optical retailers in the United States. In 1984, three brothers named David and Sheldon Goldner founded Goldner Optics Inc., which became one of the leading manufacturer and sellers of optical products worldwide.
Susanville is a small town in Northern California, located on the Sacramento River. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Sacramento-Arden-Arcade–Roseville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Susanville was founded by Hyrum Smith in 1853 as a station on the Butterworth Stagecoach line. The name "Susanville" came from his wife's maiden name, Susan. He named it after his daughter Susan Blythe and her husband General James Shields. In 1857, he started an apothecary business there and soon became well known for his high quality products. In 1865, Smith married Eliza Hastings and they moved to Susanville with their two children: Harriett (1866-1949) and Charles (1868-1955). Eliza died in 1949; Charles married Virginia Woolridge in 1955 and they lived there until his death in 1999. They are buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Modesto. The local post office was established at Susanville on April 12, 1867, by order of President Abraham Lincoln under the Act of February 25, 1865 which granted land east of Modesto Creek to be set aside for mail service between Monterey Bay and Sacramento City limits. The first postmaster general was John Cranch Richardson who served from 1870 to 1872 . After Richardson's retirement two new officers were appointed: George Wickersham from March 3rd 1870 to May 5th 1971; and Willis Quesada from June 7th 1971 to November 4th 1974 . On October 15th 1988 another post office called "Hastings" closed due to increasing competition from larger towns within the Sacramento County area such as Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove Village which had received postal service since 1850. A newPost Office opened at this location on April 14th 1989 by then Postmaster General John Ahern with Stephen Laughlin as Deputy Postmaster General responsible for operations outside of Sacramento County limits

The town's economic boom came during World War I when munitions manufacturers relocated to Susanville from other parts of California. After the war, the population declined as many local businesses closed down due to competition from larger towns and cities throughout California. However, after a period of moderate growth, the economy crashed in the late 1990s and 2000s due to factors such as away-from-home living and global recession. Today, there is little physical evidence left from whenSusanville was a thriving community with a diverse culture that retains strong ties to its past. The first settler in what is nowSusanville was Nathaniel Hawthorne who arrived with his family in 1876 along with fourteen other families on horseback following a journey taken overland from Concord, Massachusetts. He built his initial home at what is now called Avenues Trailer Park near what is now known as downtown Susanville. With only one store open during its early years, Nathaniel quickly became involved in local agriculture and commerce which would play an important role in later life for his townspeople. By 1890 however, Nathaniel had abandoned his land holdings withinSusanVILLE because he found it too difficult to commute daily to work on his farmstead across the river at Avenues Ferry Landing (now renamed Smith’s Ferry). By this time however “Nathaniel Hawthorne” had become simply “the Townsite” or “Hawthorne Street” withintown boundaries today where most people still refer to themselves using this moniker today even though their original home no longer stands within town limits! The coming decades saw much changewithintownlimits however which can be summed up with three major wavesof development: (1) Residential; (2) Commercial; and (3) Educational/ Cultural/ Recreational until finally culminatinginthelate1990sand2000sto create some significant infrastructure changes including new educational facilities(eastern high school & Community college), new commercial development(Foothill gas station & Springvale Mall),andanewirconditioningplantationwhichopenedin1998thatprovidedelectricityforthetown&muchneededfacilities expansionspursuantto increasing demandsfromcitizenship&growingemploymentrates!
