In 1984, Sunnyvale, California-then a agricultural town of about 25,000 people-became the first city in California to outlaw Carry Gun Licenses (CGLs). At the time, the city wasran by prohibitionists who believed that firearms should be tightly regulated. The ban on CGLs was an early success in turning Sunnyvale into a safe community. After two years of repeal attempts and public hearings, City Council passed an ordinance establishing a strict system for issuing CGLs. All applications were to be submitted in writing and must include a list of all guns possessed by the applicant. Applicants also had to provide proof that they were not convicted of any crime involving violence or property damage. The ordinance required holders of CGLs to carry their pistols unloaded at all times while inside buildings and during private citizen interactions outside of business transactions. The ordinance quickly became popular with gun owners in Sunnyvale-and around California-who saw it as one way to reduce crime and protect their rights. Over time, other cities followed suit in enacting similar ordinances seeking to replicate City Hall's success in preventing homicides and other crimes committed with handguns. In 1990, San Francisco passed its own handgun regulation law following a spate of shootings there attributed to illegal handguns being bought and used within the city limits

Sunnyvale is a city in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 24,581 at the 2010 census. In 1847 James MacKenzie built a cabin on an adjacent hill overlooking Rancho Adobe which became known as "MacKenzie Hill". In 1850 David Starr Jordan founded The Western Publishing Company here. The company moved its headquarters to Berkeley in 1871 before moving back to Sunnyvale two years later. In 1902 the Southern Pacific Railroad merged with Union Pacific Railroad creating the Bay Area Rapid Transit Authority (BARTA). BART station opened in 1984 and increased passenger throughput through annexation of neighboring cities until 1990 when Caltrain took over operations from BART. Until 1973 there was no school system serving Sunnyvale; children attending local churches or public schools served those areas until then too polluted for other communities within a radius of three miles (5 km). A new elementary school opened in 1978 south of downtown Sunnyvale next to Interstate 280/US 101 interchange just north of South Road between Menlo Park Boulevard and Willow Road east of Palo Alto Avenue;[4] Kindergarten through 8th grade are now offered at six different locations: one each at Livermore Industrial Park northwest off I-280 exit 717N / US 6W / SR 91E north off I-280 exit 25A / SR 680W east off I-280 exit 12C / SR 780W west off I-280 exit 20A following completion of Phase III expansion project by Apple Inc.;[5][6] juvenile hall located on Redwood Shores Boulevard across bay west of Menlo Park Blvd., also serves Chico School District #2 & #3 students
In 1865, a team of engineers led by Professor George Stephenson working on the locomotive safety system designed a wooden case for firearms to be carried in trains. The first soft gun cases were made from oakum and other materials found near the tracks. It was not until 1876 that boolipanium was invented which gave rise to the modern hard gun case design. By 1900, all types of soft gun cases were being produced and they continued to be used up until today. The origins of the softgun case go back to 1865 when Professor George Stephenson’s team developed a wooden handgun case for use on locomotives. At that time, there was no safe way of transporting firearms in trains as they could easily fall into the hands of unauthorized individuals or even be stolen altogether. To prevent this from happening, Professor Stephenson’s team came up with a solution- they created a CASE (Container for Firearms). This sturdy wood box was designed to protect handguns inside while allowing them easy access to air circulation and heat if needed. Despite its simplicity, this wooden handgun case did not fare well in comparison to later hardgun cases designs. However, it still remains one of the most popular softgun cases ever produced! Today, these unique devices are still used by many shooters all over the world!

This system worked well for many years, but eventually became too expensive to maintain. In 1969, Mayor John Fife asked developer Richard Meier to build him a large apartment complex on Sunburst Avenue which would help solve the school issue. The project was successful and led to Sunnyvale becoming one of Silicon Valley's most popular neighborhoods.
The city of Sunnyvale, California was founded on August 17, 1955 by George and Bernice Smith. The Smiths were the first white people to live in the city after it was chartered as a town by Governor James Irvine.
