Gun parts history in Sunnyvale, California began with the establishment of a post office on December 12, 1885. The town was named for Julius C. Rosenwald and his wife, Emma. By 1912, Sunnyvale had a population of over 130 people and it had its own hospital and school system. In 1916, Sunnyvale became the site of World War I’s largest air-raids by American planes against German targets in Northern California. During World War II, Sunnyvale grew rapidly as an agricultural center with a population of over 175 people. As gun shops closed throughout the 1940s and 50s, gun production moved to Japan until finally being discontinued in 1969 at which time Sunnyvale had a population of just under 100 people again. Today there are several businesses that continue to operate within the walls of City Hall including: munitions store (owned and operated by G4S), ammunition distributors ARRIS (owned by Brownells) and DPMS (owned by Colt). In 1978, Sunnyvale became one of 17 cities within Silicon Valley designated as a preferred municipality for high-tech workers because of its access to quality education, job growth opportunities and supportive infrastructure
In the early 1800s, Sunnyvale was a small town in the southern part of California. It was known for its citrus fruit and wine production. The first post office in Sunnyvale was established in 1854. In 1868, Sunnyvale became a city. The first Mayor of Sunnyvale was John B. Sutter. In 1912, Sunnyvale merged with nearby Santa Clara to form the City of Santa Clara County.
