Since the early 1800s, Stockton, California has been a center of astronomy. In 1862, the United States Naval Observatory moved to Stockton from Newport Beach and began operations with three large scopes: one called "Atalanta" was made of bronze and weighed 1 million pounds; another called "Auriga" had a mirror size of 1/4 inch; and a third was called "Camelot". The first use of an image analyzer or spectrophotometer on an American scientific instrument came from the Naval Observatory in 1862. This device allowed scientists to measure brightnesses of stars at different distances using light waves instead of traditional measurements such as temperature,depth or weight. After World War II, research shifted from celestial observation to space exploration with new techniques like photoelectricity that could be used for mapping out planets outside our solar system. During this time period, astronomer Dr. Edwin Hubble developed his theory that galaxies are not evenly distributed throughout space but are instead clustered into small groups called clusters. After he discovered these objects using a telescope on Mount Wilson in California in 1915-16, astronomy quickly progressed from observational research to understanding how the universe works at its largest scale- making it one of humanity's most successful endeavors ever!

Stockton is a city in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 148,425 at the 2010 census. In 1846, Mexican citizen Antonio López claimed land grants from then-President Fernando Woodson to populate what would become Stockton. The town began expanding rapidly with new construction beginning around 1856 and reaching its peak during the late 19th century when it had a population of 3,500 people. At this time Stonington became known as "the Gateway City". During World War II almost all manufacturing within range was done in Stockton; munitions plants located at Pascagoula (now Mobile), Bay Bridge (now Hemet), and Fairfield (now sizes). Most operations ceased during 1945 when Japan surrendered but some continued until September 1946 while others stopped entirely after1945 because of American military presence throughout much of Asia which ended with the war's end. Although there were no major hostilities erupting during or immediately after World War II, local industry nonetheless went through significant changes that impacted many residents including limits on job growth caused by wartime technology shortages; difficulties absorbing Korean refugees who arrived following the Korean War; suburban sprawl that swallowed up downtown areas between 1941-1946; high levels of poverty resulting from early postwar waves of mass migration from rural areas into cities along riverfront strips such as those around Sacramento and San Bernardino Counties;; steady joblessness rates for African Americans until well into the 1960s relative to whites despite dramatic increases in black enrollment in nearby schools over that period .... These factors together led to increasing tension between majority white/ Anglo populations inside and outside inner city boundaries about issues such as housing affordability – exemplified by a series of racially motivated blockades targeting mainly black businesses operating near innercity neighborhoods – while also exacerbating social tensions created by economic disparities among different groups within society .... racial unrest increased leading up to 1969 riots across Inner Harbor districtA predominantly black neighborhood adjacent to downtown Los Angeles There had been sporadic outbreaks over several years preceding 1969 events when community leaders mobilized large numbers of citizens seeking regulation or prohibitionof gambling parlors considered subversive under state law .... On Saturday night Mayor George Sheehan called for an emergency meeting convened by him chaired by Vice President Richard Nixon .... Approximately fifty people showed up at Sheehan’s office including several Black ministers who brought food for their congregations ........... A few hours later approximately one hundred more people turned up at City Hall where they faced off with police officer ranks .......... Thereafter violence ensued .............. Riot Control Team members used tear gas grenades and pepper spray before finally arresting participants ...... Within minutes news media outlets were televising live footage showing widespread destruction ...... Many people died.... Over three hundred businesses were either looted or burned..... More than 2 thousand residents were displaced ........... By Sunday morning only a small amount remained standing out amid extensive damage ..................largely destroyed homes lay strewn across blocks....... Dozens if not hundreds dead bodies could be seen scattered among twisted wreckage littering intersections,... Post-riot cleanup efforts have left Stratford Hills Neighborhood markedly clean compared to adjoining surrounding neighborhoods littered with human remains,,many properties have been abandoned......................... OverallStockton experienced one day of violent conflict located within its own borders............... yet overall it remains one Of America’s most failed communities: With high levels cf poverty & unemployment%, pervasive crime rates., low quality education systems & limited access ta resources............................................. Despite these problems however there are pocketscontaining thriving businesses that continueto thrive despite difficult times
