Stanton, who had participated in the Mexican-American War and later served as President of the United States. In 1848, following the California Gold Rush, many settlers arrived in what is now Stanton and began to amass property. The town was platted in 1850 and named after Lorenzo Stanislaus County seat of Fresno County
