The fire also damaged churches and schools as well as creating a large amount of social upheaval which led to increased recruitment for military forces during the American Civil War. Aftermaths included a number of fires which also destroyed many property holdings within Stanton during 1861-1863; one such event famously setting off an entire district burning campaign known as “the Great Blaze” (Kirkpatrick). In 1911, Stanton was incorporated as a city with a population exceeding 1,000 people .
