In 1942, during World War II, Stanton served as headquarters for United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force aircraft flying over Tulare Lake from nearby Madera Airport while also providing services such as water tower servicing and garbage collection for the local populace. Afterward, it reverted back to its original name - "Fresno County Agricultural Center". Since then, much progress has been made within the city limits including construction of new streets (such as Harrison Street), addition of new businesses (including several restaurants that have since closed) and growth in downtown redevelopment projects such as One Franklin Square which has seen a revitalization effort spearheaded by Mayor Gregg Byrum with support from both local officials and Silicon Valley entrepreneurs since its opening in 2013
