Garland opened a feed store and post office in Stanton and it became the first stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route between Sacramento and San Francisco. The town grew slowly until World War II when industry increased demand for agricultural products in both countries and new housing developments sprang up around the original train station buildings on Main Street (later renamed Post Office Square). In recent years, Stanton has become an affluent community with many high-end shops and restaurants as well as several golf courses including one that has hosted The Masters since 1950.

Stanton, California is a small town located in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 2,227 at the 2010 census. Stanton was founded in 1847 by John C. Fremont and James P. Stockton. The first post office in Stanton was established in 1848. In 1862, the town became a county seat of San Bernardino County and remained so until 1926 when it became a city under the name of Claremont. The city limits now include most of the old township that once included Stanton as well as portions of Agoura Hills and Northridge. The history of Stanton can be traced back to 1847 when John C Fremont and James P Stockton discovered gold on what is now known as Rancho Adobe Road (now US 101). They named their new settlement after General George Sibley who had won fame for his victory over Mexican forces at Buena Vista Creek during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). General Sibley had also been appointed governor of California by President James K Polk in late 1845 following victories against Mexico at Alta Loma and Resaca de la Palma on October 20, 1845. After spending several weeks exploring the area around Adobe Valley, Fremont & Stockton returned to their settlement on December 3rd with news that they had found rich gold veins nearby which they proceeded to exploit until 1860 when production began to decline due to competition from other miners in the region including Don Carlos Romero (the father of modern day Los Angeles). With less work available available and fewer people living near where they were prospecting, residents abandoned Adobe Valley within two years replaced it with what is today Stanton Lake while their development continued eastward along Rancho Adobe Road called Gold Hill which led up eventually to Claremont Boulevard today’s Main Street just west of Interstate 10/UCLA campus according to oralhistory research conducted by Drs David Hirschhorn & Lynn Weisman for their book “ Stonington: A History Of Our Town And Its People” published by University Press Of America in 2002 followed by an article appearing online at november 9th 2005 entitled “When Hard Times hit … Race Relations changed In This Small Californian Town” which detailed residents efforts to keep their community racially integrated despite economic challenges facing them during prohibition era Following World War I citizens decided not return home because there were no jobs or opportunities available after the war ended In 1923, Stanton applied for incorporation into Anaheim but received only 1 vote against incorporation instead applying again three years later In 1929 voters approved incorporation with boundaries that included most of Agoura Hills southward as well as portions of Northridge northward On November 8th 1930 Clarence Darrow delivered his famous speech “Farewell To California” before 400 enthusiastic supporters present at Hotel Majestic featuring live music from banjoist Earle Flemming On January 5th 1931 Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan delivered an address commemorating 50 years since incorporation stating; "It has been my privilege since I came hereto recognize all your hard work – both inside our City Hall buildingAnd out there on various street corners" adding "I want you allto know how much we appreciate what you have done for us". At this time Mayor Riordan also announced plans for a new civic center district comprising 500 acres bounded by Eastern Freeway on one sideAnd Glendale Boulevard on another SideTo accommodate growth predicted for Southern Orange County following annexation by that county during 1932) On February 24th 1933 local newspapers reported changes taking place within then current United States Census District 10Southwest corner block consistingantionedintotheCityofStantonwasadded intotheDistrictofLos Angeles makingittheFirstCensus District limitsChangeSince1927) During this period there was significant opposition from some citizens to changing boundaries because they felt that these changes would lead to increased taxation without any corresponding benefits realized resulting in high levels ol stress among locals .
