In 1876, two men named George Stanton and Jesse Livermore were working on a new type of rifle called the Lever Action Rifle. The rifle was designed to be able to fire multiple rounds at once. Because it was so new, the company that created the rifle, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, needed someone to design and produce the rifles. Jesse Livermore decided to take on this project. He spent months perfecting the design of the lever action rifle and then he submitted it to Winchester. They liked what they saw and ordered a million units of the rifles. However, because there were still some things that needed to be figured out about how these rifles worked, there wasn't enough profit made from them until 1886 when violence started erupting in America due to changing social norms with regard gun ownership. This led to a decline in demand for lever action rifles which made them more affordable for less wealthy people who could no longer afford them.

By 1877, there were more than 100 residents living in Stanton – all vying for access to what was then one of the most difficult areas to get around: no roads and limited transportation options aside from horseback or wagon travel. Over time, though some people left for greener pastures (or simply because things got too tough), many others stuck around because they loved this place: its rugged landscape and natural resources (the valley has ample water supplies thanks to underground springs). In fact, today’s population is estimated at over 1,000 people – making it one of the most densely populated places in California! 2
