A water tower was built in 1903 to provide irrigation for local farms; it still stands today. In 1907, Arbuckle Dam was completed upstream from Stanton to improve navigation on the Kern River. This dam created Lake Arbuckle which now supports about eighty-five homes and businesses near its shores. In 1916, local residents approved annexation by Bakersfield. However, due to opposition from some citizens who felt that their village had been unfairly taken advantage of by Bakersfield during its early development stages, Stanton voted against annexation in favor of retaining its own governance structures until further notice. After several years of discussion and negotiation, this decision was overturned by a vote of all residents present - including those living within the boundaries of modern-day Bakersfield - at a meeting held on October 12th, 1922.[1] On February 17th 1925,[2] Stanton became one of twenty communities along with Imperial Valley (Calif.) and Yuba City (Calif.) to become part of what would eventually become San Joaquin Valley when Fresno County was organized into four counties that year: San Bernardino County (), Riverside County (), Kern County () and Madera County (). Today Stanton has experienced rapid growth over recent decades due to both new development within its boundaries as well as job postings available through online classified ads or phone books reminiscent of those found throughout much earlier times for such small towns throughout these same regions across America ([3]).
