Many industries such as shipbuilding and munitions production took place here; however, most residents avoided Berkeleyside because of its high concentration of military personnel stationed there during wartime. However, some served heroically throughout both World Wars – including John Wainwrighttree (pictured), who served with distinction on both fronts during World War I before becoming director of Veterans Affairs for Santa Clara County. Today’s city has made significant progress since then – exemplified by its incorporation into the Municipal District of West Oakland in 1976 which marked the beginning of a municipal governance process that has resulted in increased public services and connectivity to other parts ofSan Francisco Peninsula via public transportation options such as BART/ Muni/ Highway 1/ North Beach Ferry Terminal
