In 1892, the first rifle company in South San Francisco was organized. The company was called the "South San Francisco Rifle and Pistol Club". In 1897, the club became the "San Francisco Gun Club" and in 1899 it changed its name to the "South San Francisco Rifle & Pistol Association". In 1902, the club changed its location to a building on Market Street. The club held its first annual meeting at this location on December 10, 1902. The President of the club was Fenton W. Early. At this meeting, it was decided that a committee be formed to investigate ways of making better guns for shooting purposes. It also decided that pistol competition should be held annually at some future date. In 1906, after about 20 years of being an active organization in South San Francisco, the club merged with another gun society located in Oakland (the "Oakland Gun Club"). At this merger there were several changes made including changing the name of the organization to simply "South San Francisco Rifle & Pistol Association". This name continued to be used until 1914 when it reverted back to its original name of "South San Fran Rifle & Pistol Association" again after merging with another gun society located in Berkeley (the "Berkeley Gun Club").
South San Francisco is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Francisco County, California, United States. The population was 43,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco–Oakland–Hayward Combined Statistical Area. The first European to explore and name this area was Gaspar de Portolà in 1769 A.D., after his ship, "Portolà" which he sighted on his way up the Golden Gate Peninsula from Mexico City. In 1821 Juan Bautista Alvarado founded Mission Dolores on what are now Market and Inner Streets in South San Francisco. The mission was destroyed by a fire in 1826 but rebuilt nearby on Nob Hill with new executive buildings and an attached convent called Loreto Convento de la Asistencia (Loreto House). In 1851 John Doolittle named it for General Andrew Jackson who had been Ulysses S. Grant's general during the Mexican American War of 1846-1848. At that time many people living around here thought it would be named for General José Joaquín Moraga since he had served as Commandant of Rancho Rinconada east of town - until about 1880 when most everything north of Bush Street was given its own ZIP code, 84701. In 1906 South San Francisco incorporated as a city, becoming one of six cities withinSAN FRANCISCO COUNTY that were consolidated into one municipality under Mayor James Rolph on January 1, 1907. The city limits at the time stretched down Market Street to Polk Street and then extended along Third Avenue south to Harrison Street; North Park Heights extended west from Market to Polk Streets while Potrero Hill formed its own limits just inside the city Limits extending east to Masonic Road and south to Tasman Drive (now Unincorporated Community Land).South San Francisco annexed much of northern Richmond District including Hunters Point Naval Shipyard between 1861 and 1865; however no annexation took place until 1915 when HUNTER'S POINT NATIONAL SHIPYARD ADDITION TO SOUTHERN SAN FRANCISCO COUNTY became an unincorporated community located within SOUTHERN SAN FRANCISCO COUNTYlimits

These problems are rooted in many factors such as crime rates which have increased since the beginning of the 21st century while poverty rates remain high; lack of affordable housing; infrastructure deficits; climate change-related impacts; and community fragmentation brought about by growing suburban development around it
The first Europeans to visit South San Francisco were the Spanish in 1769. The mission of San Francisco was founded by Father Junipero Serra and named for St. Francis of Assisi. In 1821, during Mexican-American War, a group of Americans led by Commodore John D. Stockton foundered onshore near what is now Market Square in South San Francisco after landing their ship at the Golden Gate Bridge. The area became part of California in 1850 following a U.S.-Mexican war victory. In 1906, South San Francisco was incorporated as a city with a population of around 30,000 people who lived in small villages scattered around its ancient town center and waterfront neighborhoods such as Pacific Heights and Nob Hill. The 1906 earthquake destroyed much of the downtown core but fortunately no deaths or major damage occurred within the city limits; this event is generally considered to be South San Francisco's most catastrophic loss since its incorporation as an independent municipality some forty years earlier. A new City Hall Annex was completed in 1939 and served as the homeport for Naval Air Station Midway from 1951 until it closed in 1997; it has been proposed that it may serve as a potential Johnny Appleseed Museum should SAN FRANCISCO CITY HALL BEACH become available for public use again soon thereafter! South San Francisco experienced rapid growth following World War II with an influx of immigrants: Italians, Chinese, Japanese and Koreans followed suit over time. During postwar boom times many new businesses were established including several large clothing stores including Jockey Club (now Macy's) and Sears Roebuck & Company (now Sears). Later waves of refugees arrived during the late 1960s through early 1970s when the draft riots shut down cities all over America – including SouthSanFORD – making jobs unavailable to citizens unable or unwilling to leave their homes due to political upheaval or economic hardship outside their community boundaries; however much like other American cities throughout this period SouthSanFORD managed relatively normal business operations despite occasional outbursts connected with these events overall population grew slowly but steadily nonetheless without incident until more recent waves brought more social unrest which once again affected both business activity and living standards beginning about 2007-2008
